Listen as Emelin, a young professional in the construction industry, talks about finding her career, why she chose the trades, and how this experience has shaped her. If you’re the type who notices the small details and likes to make things look right—consider a career as a painter. It’s hands-on work where you can learn a real skill and see the difference you make every day.

A lot’s been happening with our Kickstart classes lately. We’ve had students finish the program and earn their CDL Class A, while our electrical classes are right in the middle of hands-on learning and putting in the work every day. One of the best parts of these programs is the opportunity to earn while you learn. Students are gaining real experience, building skills, and getting paid while they do it.

One of the best parts of what we do is getting to celebrate the people making a difference across Mississippi. This month, we had the chance to recognize our Students of the Month representing North, Central, and South Mississippi 👏 These students are showing up, putting in the work, and creating opportunities for themselves through the skilled trades. We also honored Dianna Zendeja as Counselor of the Year for the incredible impact she’s making by helping students find their path and see what’s possible for their future. And on top of all of that, we celebrated Lane Bell’s retirement and the lasting impact he’s had on Build Mississippi and workforce development across our state. A really special day surrounded by people who care deeply about investing in the next generation.
