šŸ’Œ New blogpost: Some of the most important things I’ve learned about resilience didn’t come from CPU metrics. They came from navigating the mess, with our users, and with my teammates.

A key to steady progress is prioritizing goals over moods. Whether you aim to get in shape, learn the guitar, or write a book, the question is not whether you feel like it today. It's who you want to become tomorrow. Enthusiasm fluctuates. Consistent action accumulates.

We discussed this in our team recently. Writing is a thinking exercise, don't worry about finding the perfect template for your write-up. Dive deep into your thoughts and start typing -rest will follow.

The best way to gauge the quality of someone’s ideas isn’t to listen to them talking. It’s to read their writing. Compelling speakers can mask weak logic with strong charisma. Putting key points on a page exposes flawed reasoning. Compelling writing requires clear thinking.

Note to self for next quarterly planning: go into this period as ✨rested✨ as possible. Otherwise everything feels harder than it actually is. (this applies to generally anything but this is my reality right now šŸ™ˆ)

Zoom fatigue is not burnout. It’s boreout. New study: when meetings are virtual, we’re not overwhelmed—we’re understimulated. Cardiac measures show drowsiness, not stress. The antidotes are common sense but not common practice: fewer, shorter, more interactive online meetings.

I care about these talks so much because stories are what we learn from the most. I like that we don't keep them to ourselves but share them with the community. 🫶

.@hemanthmalla @lbernail are sharing how DataDog lost everything, everywhere, all at once - or more than 60% of its #Kubernetes nodes in less than an hour - and how it recovered and took steps to prevent another incident!

Also check out another talk given by my awesome colleagues at recent SREcon EMEA about this. Especially also covering how we, humans, coordinated incident response. youtu.be/82Tsujs6Qm4?si=OhJw…

✨Happy Friday!✨ I'd like to take a sec to debunk a popular myth about the "deploy on Fridays" movement. Many seem to think we mean everyone should be deploying code right up til quitting time, every Friday. This is not the point at all. This is NOT a great idea for most shops.

the motto that keeps me on track: *choose your own challenges*. there's nothing more gratifying than learning and growing in the areas you're truly desire.

i’ve been experiencing lots of personal and professional growth recently, hence less activitiy here. This makes me think about how to interpret comfort zone in a way that actually helps people, and not pressure them. Something i’d love to talk more about in the furure.
