If you're a fan of pre-reset Longhorn you might know the "urban legend" of builds ~4033 having broken DCE due to a Direct3D shader mishap.
Turns out that's been wrong all along and it's just poor order of operations at init. 23 years and a fair bit of ASM later, 4033 glass! 🎉🪟
Is... Is this the year of Bing?
I know Bing is (was?) pretty bad outside of US but with how Google is getting worse and worse maybe its time to give it a chance.
The bar is getting lower instead of higher lol
AI is great, but choice is greater. Adding “-ai” to your query on Bing will now suppress AI summaries, and we’ve launched a browser extension to allow you to toggle it on/off for all your queries. I’d love to hear your feedback about how this impacts your overall experience.
This looks like a great contender for some WinUI glow-up... Seems simple to show/render, (maybe) it's not used too much so it's a bit less risk if things go south.
Or maybe just ditch it and integrate into Control Center. Yeah, that seems like a better idea
Hey @marcusash , I remembered one thing that's missing - flags!
Windows is AFAIK the only OS that doesn't have flags in its emoji pack, and often I see square symbols instead in OS / Edge. Is there anything to share or is it yet another to-do thing now? :)
Heyo @JenMsft I'm trying to make WinGet work on Server 2019 and one step includes installing VCLibs v140 package. URL aka.ms/Microsoft.VCLibs.x64.… points to older version of package (14.0.27810) while WinGet requires 14.0.33519). I don't want to install components from 3rd party sites
Oh, rabbit hole goes deeper lol - I ran into VC UWP Desktop Runtime Package download site:
microsoft.com/en-us/download…
But it only downloads readme.txt (despite install instructions stating I'd get appx) and then it says apps comes only as package with Visual Studio?
Yes, my Task Manager alternative comes with a run dialog, complete with command history, autocompletion and more. No, it does not take 94 ms to appear. Computers can be fast!
Dive deep into what’s new since Windows Server 2025 GA, including Hotpatching, failover clustering improvements, native NVMe storage, networking protections, and identity enhancements. x.com/i/broadcasts/1qJVmQlBA…
Low Latency Mode is all fun and nice quick win, however I hope for the optimization that would give perf like that on current power profile. K2 is only starting so I'd say if they get it until end of this year we can say things are turning to better. For the first step, I'm happy
What timing! Build 26300.8289 FINALLY replaces the spinning dots on the login screen and shutdown/restart/etc. screens with the newer spinning animation seen on the boot screen. 🥳
ALT Windows 11 login screen, with the newer style spinning animation between the username ("Phantom") and the "Welcome" text.
ALT Windows 11 signing out screen, with the newer spinning animation above the text.
With more talk and hope around UI consistency in Windows 11 recently, I really hope these old Win8 spinning dots on the login and shutdown/sign out/etc. screens finally get updated this year. Please.

1) Simplified and clearer Insider channels
2) A new Feature Flags page in Experimental to let you enable/disable features yourself during gradual rollouts
3) Expanded ability to move between channels or leave without clean-installing Windows
