CAL FIRE firefighters serve in a variety of roles, including firefighters assigned to engines and hand crews. 🚒Engine firefighters provide all-risk emergency response (structure fires, medical aid, hazmat), in addition to responding to wildfires. CAL FIRE engines are staffed with three or four firefighters. 🔨Hand crew firefighters are primarily used during wildfires to cut fireline — clearing vegetation down to bare dirt to help slow or stop a fire’s advance. When not assigned to active wildfires, hand crews also support fuels reduction work by thinning overgrown vegetation in targeted areas. #CALFIRE #Firefighters #WildlandFires #HandCrews #Engines

🎓 Congratulations to our newest graduates! Today, we’re recognizing our newest Peace Officers and Company Officers as they complete rigorous training programs and take the next step in their careers serving California. Our Peace Officers have completed the challenging Regular Basic Course (RBC), a P.O.S.T.-certified program that develops the skills needed for law enforcement, from community engagement and investigations to defensive tactics and fitness. Our Company Officers have successfully completed extensive leadership and professional development training, preparing them to lead crews, make critical decisions, and support emergency operations across the state. Both graduations are more than the completion of courses. They represent a commitment to public service, leadership, and protecting California’s people and natural resources. 👏 We’re proud to recognize both graduating classes and everything they’ve accomplished. #CALFIRE #Graduation #Leadership #PublicService #PeaceOfficer #CompanyOfficer

Happy Friday, California. ☀ The weekend is here. Whether you're heading to the lake, the mountains, the campground, or staying local, keep safety part of the plan. Dry grass, warm temperatures, and a single spark can quickly cause a wildfire. Enjoy the weekend. Make smart choices. Help keep California fire safe. 📷 @FresnoCoFire #WildfireAwareness #OutdoorSafety #Outdoors #WildfirePrevention #California

Arson is a crime that puts lives, homes, and communities at risk. Through May 2026, CAL FIRE investigators made 43 arson-related arrests statewide. Safeguarding our communities means holding arsonists accountable and working to prevent the next fire before it starts. CAL FIRE law enforcement officers investigate fires, interview witnesses, issue citations, and make arrests when crimes are committed. Anyone with information about suspected arson is encouraged to call our anonymous Arson Hotline: 1-800-468-4408. #ArsonArrests #LawEnforcement #CALFIRE

⚽ Play by the rules. Campfire safety fouls? That gets a red card. Before you build a campfire, make sure you have a valid California Campfire Permit. Know the rules: 🟨 Keep flammable materials at least 5 feet away 🟥 Keep your fire small and manageable 🚨 NEVER leave a campfire unattended  💧 Extinguish the fire correctly: drown, stir, and make sure it’s cool and out No fouls means you’re preventing wildfires. #WorldCup #CampfireSafety #FIFA #OneLessSpark #California

🏠 Wildfire safety starts at home. Simple steps like installing ember-resistant vents, installing non-flammable roof gutters, sealing gaps around doors and garages, and upgrading windows can help reduce your home’s risk from embers and flames during a wildfire. Visit a Home Depot or your local hardware store to find materials and tips that can help you harden your home and better protect what matters most. Want more ways to be prepared? Head to ReadyforWildfire.org to get started today. #CALFIRE #ReadyForWildfire #WildfirePreparedness

🚩 TAKE ACTION BEFORE A RED FLAG WARNING 🚩 Critical fire weather conditions are expected from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Thursday across portions of the Sacramento Valley. Strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels can cause fires to spread rapidly. Before the wind arrives, do an Ember Check: ✔️ Close windows, garage doors, and pet doors ✔️ Clear leaves and debris from roofs and gutters ✔️ Move flammable items off your patio and at least 5' away from your home Close It. Clear It. Move It. Now is the time to prepare, stay alert, and have an evacuation plan ready. #ReadyForWildfire #RedFlagWarning #CALFIRE #WildfirePreparedness

About 95% of California wildfires are started by people, often without realizing it. By changing our behavior, especially during hot, dry, or windy conditions, we can stop wildfires before they start. Here's how you can help prevent wildfires: 🔧 Inspect equipment before outdoor work—metal on metal creates sparks 🌾 Skip mowing dry grass in the afternoon heat—friction alone can ignite it ⛓ Keep trailer chains off the ground—sparks fly when metal hits pavement 🔥 Never leave campfires, BBQs, or power tools unattended in dry conditions Every one of us can help stop a wildfire before it starts. Do your part. #ReadyForWildfire #CALFIRE #OneLessSpark #DoYourPart #Preparedness

🤝 California and Chile united by a shared mission.   Today, CAL FIRE and Chile’s National Forestry Corporation, @conaf_minagri, reaffirmed the Memorandum of Understanding to continue a longstanding partnership focused on wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

For more than a decade, CAL FIRE and CONAF have worked together to exchange knowledge, advance innovation, and strengthen wildfire management practices.

This renewed partnership will continue to support training, technology sharing, post-fire restoration efforts, and community resilience initiatives that help protect lives, natural resources, and the landscapes we serve.

Diameter tape isn't just a measurement tool. It helps us track forest health over time. CAL FIRE forestry professionals use this tool to measure tree diameter and learn how a forest is growing, changing, and responding to its environment. That data drives real decisions — it informs where and how we plan vegetation management projects, prescribed burns, and fuel reduction projects. #CALFIRE #ForestHealth #WildfirePrevention #CaliforniaForests #STEM

The effects of a disaster don't always end when the emergency is over. June is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. Firefighters and first responders are exposed to situations that can have lasting impacts long after an incident ends. For survivors, families, and community members, the emotional impacts can last for months or years. PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. No one should have to navigate life's challenges alone. We're proud to have a dedicated Behavioral Health and Wellness Unit trained in peer support to offer resources, support, and guidance to our personnel when they need it most. We're raising awareness to help reduce stigma, encourage conversations about mental health, and to show that seeking support is an important part of one’s overall well-being. #PTSDAwareness #MentalHealthAwareness #WildfireRecovery #FirstResponderLife
