Struggling to understand why COBRA meetings haven't been called yet when black & brown people have been targeted in their own homes, muslim worshippers had to lock themselves into a mosque for their own safety & there's a literal pogrom on the streets? @Keir_Starmer is spineless.

It will never sit quite right with me that we have to watch people that look like us burnt out their homes and lynched on the street (in cases over recent years) and carry on as if it’s normal working day.

Let’s call it what it is.

This doesn’t start with petrol and flames. It’s fuelled every time people give an inch to these horrific “small boats”, racist and Islamaphobic narratives – at the pub, around family dinner tables, in Parliament.

They’re trying to burn Black and brown people alive. Statements aren’t enough.

I am old enough to remember the Ian Huntley riots when people went out in fury at a White man who raped and murdered two schoolgirls. Except of course nobody did, and if it happened now nobody would. The outrage is selective to their racism, and everybody sees it.

The Great British media are responsible for this, and need to face consequences for their continual incitement of racial and ethnic hatred. It's been the press barons and their friends at the heart of this country's decline into hatred and squalor for decades.

There was a pogrom in in Belfast last night. When we read history books we often ask how these acts of violence happen, and how people go along with it. You're living how it happens.

RT @Taj_Ali1: I don’t want to hear any bullshit about “legitimate concerns” and “working class revolt” It’s working-class Black and brown…

The sooner people wake up and realise we’re in the “setting Black and brown people’s homes on fire and dragging them out” of times and not the “few chants and a dance once a quarter” of times, the better. You either stand and fight against this or you may as well stand with it.

Black girls hit by double burden of racism and misogyny online Research involving 4,000 young people found that abuse is increasingly normalised with Black girls often having to navigate a unique mix of sexism, racism and dehumanising stereotypes ➡️voice-online.co.uk/news/uk-n…

Having no police presence separating the far-right demo and our counter-protest in Bristol yesterday led to 3 hours of flabbergasting conversations. At some point, we need to acknowledge the role AI and social media algorithms is playing in the horror show of misinformation.

20 years ago, when I’d counter-protest, the demographic was often the same and fuelled by tabloid headlines, deep-set racism and Stella. Now, almost every time, I’m seeing kids at far-right demos and more and more women. A young woman yesterday had travelled down from Stoke…

We’ve got to start tackling the misinformation head on, every time and calling out racism and Islamophobia in all forms. And making it clear that, while people have every right to be angry about the state of the nation, small boats aren’t the problem. The powerful and rich are.

I spoke to her for a while and she genuinely believed that it’s 90% Black and brown men committing aggravated crimes today. This won’t be changed if we only meet it on the streets.

Henry Nowak should still be alive today. He had a whole life to live, dreams to achieve and memories to make. His murder and the fact he died while begging police to help him is abhorrent, heartbreaking, and another failing of the police.

The tragic murder of a young man being used for political point-scoring and to peddle misinformation and harmful, tired narratives is shameful. The anger being misdirected towards race and religion, instead of forces paid to protect that might have saved his life speaks volumes.

How many times are grieving families going to have to beg people not to use their loved ones to fuel hate and division? The mere suggestion that people of colour have ever had preferential treatment from the police would be laughable if it wasn’t laced with tragedy. Shameful.

Shame on everyone salivating to justify the use of excessive force just the other week.
🚨Trigger warning: This video contains distressing footage of restraint. The moment Yves Sakila, a 35-year-old Congolese man, was restrained in Dublin by several men for a number of minutes before becoming unresponsive and later dying. His family are now calling for justice.
