I'm so sorry I can't stop laughing. OpenAI, the company built on stealing literally the entire internet, is crying because DeepSeek may have trained on the outputs from ChatGPT. They're crying their eyes out. What a bunch of hypocritical little babies. ft.com/content/a0dfedd1-5255…

I’m I the only one who now uses AI email autocomplete to avoid typing the suggestion so my emails sound less trite/perfunctory?

A 1982 lecture series by Grace Hopper was apparently recently put on youtube. As someone who does a lot of lecturing and public speaking, it's master class on how to give talks and a lot of the wisdom conveyed is still quite relevant. nsa.gov/Press-Room/Press-Rel…

Today's update. We are already seeing a convention bounce for Harris, and this is from data BEFORE her speech last night. natesilver.net/p/nate-silver…

Killer app for AI: auto rely to text messages from scammers to troll them/DoS their time. It’s so obvious someone must have done this already. Anyone have a link?

Why are news agencies saying he has not endorsed anyone when he clearly and explicitly has?

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

I wonder at what point people will realize that “an answer being statistically likely” is not the same as “true”.

Today’s hyperscale data centers rely on ultra-high-bandwidth Ethernet networks that combine many switch chassis into a large, software-defined network fabric. research.google/pubs/jupiter… has a recent overview of how they’re built. 🧵⬇️

I've been an admirer of Russ's work and blog for a long time. So it was exciting to talk batfish with him and Rick.

Network configuration analysis has always been the domain of commercial-grade software. Batfish changes all that with an open source, community-supported tool that can find errors and guarantees the correctness of planned or current network configurations. Ratul Mahajan joins Tom Ammon and Russ White to talk about this new tool, its capabilities, and the importance of network configuration analysis. rule11.tech/hedge-213/

Question for the world: if a router uses a IPv6 link-local addr, and link-local always encodes a MAC address, then should that router always accept traffic to that MAC address? I saw yes, this router says no :-(

So sad: Windows 11 (the latest/greatest) doesn’t negotiate TCP timestamps (rfc1323 - published 1992!!) by default. No wonder the net perf is worse than the same machine running Linux :-(

Putting it together now - but the first big win is having a TCP RTO that’s based on RTT instead of having a flat constant of “1 second” which is the other most horrible thing in windows default settings. They both need to be fixed to have any real benefit…

I feel this in my bones.
This brilliant take from @mipsytipsy seems like a litmus test for being allowed to be an individual contributor or not. For engineers, it's rarer that deep conflicts are existential. If it's the case, maybe there is no space for you to be an individual contributor. charity.wtf/2023/12/15/why-s…

Found packets in the wild with both RST and ACK set… sounds like a passive aggressive bad soap opera relationship : “yes I got your message and I want you to know I got it, but I NEVER WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN!!’”
