Last week our SA AgriTech meetup explored the technology synergies between mining and agriculture, through a collaboration with CORE Innovation Hub.
What did we learn at the Meetup?
- Both industries seek solutions for large scale biodiversity regeneration projects, requiring technology and practices that transfer from mining to agriculture as shared by Glenn Christie from Succession Ecology Pty Ltd.
- Crushed Basalt rock can be used as an agricultural fertiliser when exposed to water and Co2, that enables a chemical reaction to sequester carbon and deliver nutrients to crops, as shared by Binoy Sarkar and Andrew Pedley from Carbonaught Pty Ltd.
- Measuring contaminated soils in the oil and gas sector has enabled Ziltek to develop hardware that can now be recalibrated to measure soil health markers and provide real time analysis to farmers and agronomists, as shared by Sean Manning.
Following the presentations were demonstrations of the technologies, with lots of great discussion and networking with many first time meetup attendees connecting with our community.
Thanks to Renee Hakendorf, Simon Hareb Julia Miller and Libby McMichael for being amazing hosts for us at CORE Innovation Hub.
