Between 2022 and 2026, Otolaryngology and Dermatology showed similar specialty growth, but very different applicant trends.
Otolaryngology: 11.6% positions, 3.8% applicants
Dermatology: 11.0% positions, 29.6% applicants

Following the drop in overall ENT match rates, U.S. MD senior match rates also declined across several competitive specialties in 2026.
ENT: 78.5% → 75.5% (−3.0 pp)

New 2026 NRMP data show a tougher year for ENT applicants overall.
Overall match rate fell from 71.2% to 67.4%, with declines for both U.S. MD and U.S. DO applicants. Meanwhile, IMG match rate increased substantially from 21.2% to 37.1%.
