Together with the Royal College of Gynaecologists and 48 other organisations we are calling for action to ensure women receive the quality of health care they need. Unequal and inadequate access to appropriate and timely healthcare can have a devastating impact on women and their families, including increasing the risk of stillbirth, premature birth and maternal death.
Today is International Women’s Day. The College is proud to do our bit to #AccelerateAction towards improving the health of women and girls around the world. Read our open letter published yesterday: brnw.ch/21wRbUt

Funeral directors have an important role in supporting bereaved families at a very difficult time and can be among the first people that families speak to when someone important to them has died. Our free webinar for funeral directors ‘An introduction to Child Bereavement UK’ (19 March, 4pm to 5pm) includes: an introduction from John Adams, Child Bereavement UK’s Funeral Industry Advisor and former president of the National Association of Funeral Directors; guidance on communicating with bereaved children and young people; and information on ways in which Child Bereavement UK can work with your organisation. childbereavementuk.org/intro…

The tour of Michael Rosen’s one-person show 'Getting Through It' begins on 16 March. The show is formed of a double bill of monologues. In ‘The Death of Eddie’, Michael recounts the death of his son from meningitis at the age of 18 and in ‘Many Kinds of Love’ he recalls how he contracted COVID-19 and spent 48 days in intensive care, where he was put into an induced coma and was told he had a 50% chance of dying. Answering children’s questions about death in a straightforward, honest way may seem difficult, but bereaved children tell us that it’s helpful when adults speak to them in a way that is clear and unambiguous.

When your partner dies, don’t be afraid to show how you are feeling. Children learn about feelings by watching the adults around them, and it’s not helpful to be told they need to be brave. Visit our website for more information: childbereavementuk.org/suppo…

When a grandchild dies, grandparents feel intense sadness. Others, however, can overlook their grief as they understandably focus on the bereaved parents. If you know a bereaved grandparent it can help to keep in touch, send a card or simply say how sorry you are.
