i took a 45-minute uber ride home from the airport last night after a brutal, three-day business trip. i was completely emotionally and physically drained, and my social battery was at absolute zero. when i got into the car, the driver.. an older guy named kabir.. didn't say the usual "how was your flight?" or turn on the radio. instead, he just handed me a small, laminated piece of paper attached to the back of his headrest. it was a literal "ride menu." it said: 1. *the silent ride* (total quiet, no pressure to talk). 2. *the therapist ride* (if you need to vent about your day, i am listening). 3. *the tourist ride* (i will tell you cool facts about the city). 4. *the radio ride* (we just listen to old jazz and coast). i smiled, pointed to number 1, and whispered, "silent ride, please. thank you." he gave me a warm nod in the rearview mirror, adjusted the AC, and drove the entire 45 minutes in absolute, beautiful silence. it was the most peaceful, therapeutic boundary iโ€™ve experienced all year. i felt my entire nervous system finally reset. when he dropped me off, i gave him a massive tip and told him, "that menu is a genius business idea. you must get amazing reviews." He looked back at me and said, "i didn't make the menu to get better tips, dear. my daughter has severe social anxiety, and she told me that the hardest part of her day is navigating small talk with strangers when her brain is tired. she told me it feels like running a marathon. i made the card so that anyone who gets into my car can feel completely safe dropping the mask for a little while." i walked into my apartment and just sat on my suitcase. we live in a world that is constantly screaming at us to perform, to network, to be "on," and to over-communicate. but sometimes, the deepest form of love and respect you can show another human being is just creating a small, safe pocket of silence for them to rest in. pay attention to the people who give you permission to be quiet. they are rare.

Widely acclaimed as one of the greatest duets of all time, this 1987 archival footage from Ibiza captures the iconic song "Barcelona." It stands as a vivid testament to the perfect fusion of Montserrat Caballรฉโ€™s sublime operatic vocals and Freddie Mercuryโ€™s captivating stage presenceโ€”a masterpiece that left an indelible mark on music history and went on to become the official and defining anthem of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Look up . The sky is putting on a show you won't see again until 2028. A rare Blue Moon is rising on May 30, peaking in the early hours of May 31 at 8:45 UTC. It's the second full moon of May, and the first time two full moons have shared a single calendar month since August 2023. But the moon isn't doing this alone. Venus and Jupiter are lining up low in the western sky just after sunset. Mars and Saturn are climbing in the east before dawn. Mercury joins the western evening lineup too. Four planets. One Blue Moon. One sky. Here's the kicker โ€” this isn't just any full moon. It's the smallest full moon of the entire year, sitting roughly 252,360 miles away at its farthest point from Earth. A micromoon. A Blue Moon. A planet parade. All at once. The moon will glow right next to Antares, the red heart of Scorpius, on May 30. For the best view of the planetary lineup, step outside 30 to 45 minutes after sunset and look west. Set an alarm before dawn if you want to catch Mars and Saturn rising in the east. And no, despite the name, the moon won't actually look blue. The name comes from the calendar quirk, not the color. The next one like this won't happen until December 2028. Don't blink.

"100% Grated Parmesan Cheese." That's what the label says. That is, in fact, the literal text the manufacturer has chosen to place on the front of the package. The 100% refers to a feeling, not a chemistry. In 2012, the FDA raided Castle Cheese in Pennsylvania, a major supplier of grated cheese to American supermarkets. The 100% Parmesan they were selling was 0% Parmesan. It was a blend of cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, and powdered cellulose, the last of which is, in industrial terms, wood pulp. Or to be more specific: fine fibres extracted from the cell walls of trees and processed into a flowable powder used to stop the cheese from clumping in the shaker. The Castle Cheese executive went to prison. The company went bankrupt. The practice continued. In 2016, Bloomberg commissioned independent lab testing of major American "100% Parmesan" products. Kraft's product contained 3.8% cellulose. Some Walmart and Albertsons store brands tested as high as 9%. The accepted industry threshold for "anti-clumping" cellulose use is 2 to 4%. The cheese is partly wood. The Italians, who have been making the actual cheese for a thousand years, can only sell their version under EU protection as Parmigiano Reggiano: three ingredients, milk, rennet, salt, aged in a 75-pound wheel for at least twelve months in a specific geographic region with the name burned into the rind in dotted pin lettering. The American "Parmesan" can be anything. The American "Parmesan" can be sawdust. The Italian cheese costs more. The Italian cheese is more. The price of food is sometimes the price of food being food.
