Same old lie Apple told during Epic v Apple, which they lost, and were later found in contempt of court on, with a criminal referral. iPhone would be MUCH better if AI assistants could compete in a free market, rather than locking out competitors and paywalling what’s left.
Apple makes it clear that Europe is itself to blame for the unavailability of Apple Intelligence. Apple says Siri AI won’t launch on iPhone and iPad in the EU because regulators interpret the DMA as requiring Apple to give rival AI assistants broad access to private user data and control over apps. Apple argues this would create major privacy and security risks, and says the European Commission rejected its proposed safeguards, including a "Trusted System Agent" and an 18-month rollout plan. As a result, there is currently no timeline for Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU. “We’re deeply disappointed that our EU users won’t have Siri AI on iPhone or iPad when we share our new software releases later this year,” said Craig Federighi." (...) "However, given the clear dangers to EU users and the regulators’ failure to acknowledge these risks, there is currently no timeline for Siri AI’s availability in the EU on iOS and iPadOS." EU overregulated itself. Again.

I’m hiring exceptional software engineers for my team at @SpaceX. We are a small team based in Redmond, WA (onsite) that owns key parts of the @Starlink user experience: Starlink.com, the mobile app, customer support, AI integrations. No PMs. No designers. You ship from day one to millions of customers. If this sounds interesting, DM me something impressive you’ve built.

After 9 years, I just finished my last week at Expo. Started working on it when I was 19, and it's been the center of my life ever since. Incredibly grateful to the team and community we built along the way!

Apple needs to bring back Steve Wozniak to fix these idiotic missteps. It’s not only a terrible move against developers, it’s a move against kids learning to make apps and therefore a move against the future of Apple’s own platform.
Apple has quietly halted App Store updates for popular AI "vibe-coding" applications most notably the $9 billion startup Replit and mobile app builder Vibecode. After months of pushback, Apple is reportedly demanding major UX changes. Replit is being asked to force its generated app previews to open in an external web browser rather than natively inside its app. Vibecode was told it must completely remove the ability to generate software specifically for Apple devices.

Meanwhile, Apple has lost their way. They're not only blocking competing stores outside of EU, Japan, and Brazil; they're actually blocking useful features of developer tools on the App Store, preventing a new generation of kids from learning to code. x.com/9to5mac/status/2034265…

AI builds web apps well. Mobile apps have been harder. Now, the inventor of React (the technology that AI uses to build apps), has a new announcement.

Having an idea, making it a reality, _and_ launching it - all from your phone? That's @Replit 🤝 @expo . Try it, it's magic.
Replying to @Replit
Here’s all you need to do to build mobile apps with Replit: 1. Describe your idea & get a React Native mobile app in minutes. 2. Scan a QR code to test your app on your phone. 3. Publish to the App Store directly from Replit. This launch was made possible by our partnership with Expo. Try today at: replit.com/mobile-apps

With launch.expo.dev, deploying to TestFlight is a function of Apple Developer Program complexity. For individuals starting from zero, this is ~72 hours and $99 ( tax), along with a number of emails and slow webpages. Going all the way through app review is another story—maybe adds 3-5 days if you performed a tool-assisted speedrun. In terms of reach, you could parallelize full review time TestFlight. First 100 users via Apple team, then first 10k users via public TestFlight (30min to multi-day review times). AI currently plays no role in the path of least resistance for deployment since you can launch any existing project, but metadata automation is a prime candidate for agents.

Pretty amazing... AI literally drove the time needed to learn to code to get an app on the App Store down to zero.
