This #WorldOceanDay, we’re exploring how the sea shaped Wales’ castles—from defence to supply routes and beyond.

Perched high above Bristol, the iconic Blaise Castle is more than just a pretty view!
This 18th-century folly was built to impress, but it hides a dramatic history of fortune lost at sea.
A must-visit spot for any history buff.

Ewenni Priory Church ⛪️
Separate from Ewenny Priory house 🏰
Still unclear why a small and not highly significant place like Ewenny would require such fortifications: were they built for show rather than defensive purposes?
Yes I am drinking in a pub museum that I have also drunk in when not a museum
This surely makes me old !!
As an aside the models in st fagans are nice. Never knew these two were so close originally
Ogmore Castle 🏰
Castell Ogwr 🏴
Norman stronghold founded c.1116 along the river and its famous stepping stones.
Stone keep, curtain walls & tidal moat still at this beautiful riverside ruin.
(Mind those slippery stones!)
