After seeing long lines for the Rodeo and now the World Cup, we must recognize that investments in transit are not nice to haves but true critical infrastructure for a thriving global city.
Fans filed out of Houston Stadium today after Germany beat Curacao in the first local match of the World Cup. This is the line to take the METRORail. khou.com/article/news/local/

Breaking news! The MKT Bridge opened this evening! We're not saying it was like that time the Berlin Wall fell but we are not not saying that.

if they're going to stink at least open the roof
That'll be four times the roof at Globe Life Field has been open this season. Since 2022, the Astros have opened the roof at Daikin Park for two regular-season games. Story with @SamBlum3 from last month - nytimes.com/athletic/7222934

The question is not whether he deserves execution (he does), but whether we should execute him (we shouldn't). In the USA, executing people does not reduce crime, protect people (at least if incarcerated in more protective prisons), or save money compared to long term imprisonment. Executing people hardens us as a society to others. All systems of capital punishment there are systems to protect the executioner from the deed, showing the recognition of how such acts are bad for them as human beings, even when they agree in principle it's moral. In the US, the evidence & ethics are against having any executions.
I am challenging any death penalty opponent — there are millions of them, allegedly — to step up to the plate right now and explain why this guy should not be executed. His guilt is established beyond any doubt whatsoever. His crime is utterly savage and heinous. Tell us why he doesn’t deserve to die. Go ahead.

The city @houmayor @HouPublicWorks couldn’t or was unwilling to enforce a signed and informative detour for a trail closure, so we had to print the signs and do it ourselves in partnership with neighborhood stakeholders ATOTB.org/detour

For a Mayor that says we’re broke and therefore have to cower to the Governor, as a city we sure are wasting a lot of money ripping up *new* streets and safety improvements.
Quick update from today’s City Council meeting regarding the 11th Street corridor. Council Member Twila Carter @TwilaForHouston raised concerns about the 11th Street bikeway, noting she has been receiving constituent communications requesting its removal. Council Member Castillo @MarioforHouston responded by pointing to the community engagement process and safety data supporting the current design. The Mayor @houmayor then asked whether police and fire departments were included in that engagement. While no decisions were made, the conversation signals that the 11th Street redesign could become part of a broader reevaluation of recent street projects. change.org/houstonloves11th

An electric vehicle charged by an ICE generator is more efficient than an ICE vehicle bc a generator always operates in its power band close to max thermodynamic efficiency. Even w transmission loss, this gives significantly higher miles per gallon than an ICE car.
Found the @Waymo depot in Dallas where they clean and recondition their fleet. How are they charging them? Propane generators. Electric autonomous vehicles charged by propane. 😂

I live near Blodgett bike lanes and will be so so disappointed to see them removed. They are beautiful, make it more safe for non-car users (so many elders and students in the area that walk). And I always see people using them when I'm nearby, including people with strollers.

I grew up in Houston and it always seemed to me as we had big immigration waves, that it wasn't just the immigrants that acclimated to our way of live, but we acclimated to theirs as well. Like a connection between. And honestly that's how it should be in this 250 year old country. We don't have thousands of years of one culture, we have 250 of many. So when someone says. Immigrants no longer integrate into society what they really mean is, they don't integrate with the society they experienced in their bubble, or the society they watched in movies. Houston has always been known for it's super diversity, and it's a big part of why Houston is special. Texas its self has a culture that doesn't fit into what someone in Ohio might think is the American culture. And Houston is super different than Dallas which is super different than Austin. Maybe next time you take a trip with your family to get some Mexican food, or some kolaches, or Thai, you think about that. Because those are as American as apple pie, and we're better off for it.

I’m disappointed in today’s vote, but this fight is far from over. This has always been about protecting families, upholding the Constitution, and keeping our officers focused on solving crime, not doing the job of ICE. While I am hopeful based on the City Attorney's assurances that this amendment will continue to end HPD's 30-minute wait for ICE and not permit officers to detain on the basis of a civil administrative warrant alone, Houstonians shouldn’t have to rely on promises when these safeguards should be written into law. I’m glad transparency and reporting requirements that we passed remain, representing meaningful progress in improving accountability. I will keep fighting alongside Houstonians to defend our constitutional rights and protect families.

Classic big market, big team. Lose a game and accuse the other team of cheating. I like a handful of Dodgers players but I wish them nothing but failure going forward.

This could be Houston, but our mayor believes letting drivers speed is more important than pedestrian safety
In the last decade, Austin has made major investments in pedestrian safety. ✅ ✹ Added nearly 500 new pedestrian crossings đŸš¶â€â™€ïž Implemented pedestrian head-starts at over 750 locations 📉 Reduced serious injury & fatal crashes by 27% at new pedestrian crossing islands
