There's actually legislation in Califomia to shorten the workweek from 40 hours to 32 hours without a reduction in pay, which would be the most transformative labor legislation in our generation, and it should be bigger news but it barely made a headline.
Community note
California has no active legislation mandating a 32-hour workweek without pay reduction; a prior bill (AB 2932) to require it for large employers died without a vote in 2022. calmatters.org/economy/2023/0… leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavC…

In Denmark, McDonalds workers make $25 an hour and, if they are over twenty, the company starts paying into a pension plan for them, and in addition they have a full 6 weeks of paid vacation. Now how much do you think this costs customers? The Economist looked into this and found out that the Big Mac costs 76 cents less than it does here. Don't believe the lies that raising the minimum wage would force prices to go up.

Rep. Fletcher: The New World screwworm has been found in Texas. This flesh-eating parasite previously eradicated from the U.S. poses a huge threat to our cattle. Last March, the Trump administration fired more than 15,000 USDA employees and eliminated a program to contain the screwworm in Central America. The threat of New World screwworm is just one consequence of the Trump administration's reckless campaign to eliminate funding for government programs that Americans rely on.

Because subconsciously, they know, “strong men” have always been weak. Every, single, one. Every “strong man” in history has been the weakest human on the planet. Weak people are drawn to weak leaders who throw fits & act like babies. That’s pretty much the entire explanation
No snark, I genuinely don’t get it. Trump is one of the least masculine, most juvenile public figures out there. He’s needy, whiny, defensive, terrified of strong women, and visibly intimidated by powerful men. How does his base spin this into the ultimate “strongman” image?

The Big Beautiful Bill contains a provision banning state & local governments from regulating AI. It’s worse than you think. It would make it easier for corporations to get zoning variances, so massive AI data centers could be built in close proximity to residential areas.

I didn’t know about the earliest origin of Memorial Day until I was a grown-ass man, and it’s because some folks didn’t want us to. In 2021, organizers at an Ohio Memorial Day ceremony muted retired Army Lt. Col. Barnard Kemter for nearly two minutes the moment he began discussing how formerly enslaved Black Americans exhumed the remains of Union soldiers to give them proper burials. 🧵

This is what local accountability looks like: In Festus, Missouri, a town of about 14,000 people, the city council quietly approved a $6 billion Ai data center to be built on 360 acres just north of Highway 67. Residents say they were never properly heard. Meetings were held in private. Documents were released too late. A week after the approval, the town held a regular election. Voter turnout jumped 129 percent. Every single council member who had voted yes lost in a landslide. A 70-year-old first-time candidate beat an 8-year incumbent by 40 percentage points. Now a recall petition is circulating to remove the mayor as well. The lawsuit against the city is already filed. Has your local government ever been held accountable like this? 🔥

The real SNAP scandal: 75% of SNAP recipients work. When employers pay poverty wages, their workers are forced to rely on taxpayer-funded programs like SNAP. That’s corporations abusing SNAP to subsidize their profits at the expense of taxpayers, not SNAP recipients abusing the system.

Every person I know who works for a corp that gets gov contracts said the corps typically charge 2-3 times what they’d actually need to do the job, that’s where your tax dollars go. Fiscally responsible means your taxes go to overpay rich private corporations.

Mamdani: For too long, New Yorkers have been told ambition must give way to austerity—that government can either be fiscally responsible or invest in people. But never both. This budget proves otherwise.
