It has been 4 months since the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie and the Pima County Sheriff's office faces mounting criticism over its handling of the case, including accusations that it delayed FBI involvement, mishandled evidence, and communicated poorly with the public. The United Cajun Navy, a volunteer search and rescue organization credited with thousands of rescues during Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters, offered to help months ago. The sheriff declined. A petition is calling on Sheriff Chris Nanos to let them help. More than 200,000 people have signed a petition demanding criminal charges for the officers involved in the death of Henry Nowak, 18-year-old who was stabbed five times in Southampton, England last December. Officers who arrived at the scene handcuffed him instead of delivering crucial aid. Nowak died at the scene. Nowak's attacker was convicted of murder and sentenced to life, but the four officers who detained Nowak have not been charged. Now, recently released bodycam footage is drawing renewed attention to the case as three of the officers involved remain on the force. A petition is demanding charges and accountability for the officers involved. You can read or sign here: Change.org/NowakOfficers #HenryNowak #Southampton #Crime #Police #UK

On Tuesday evening, a 16-year-old carriage horse named Deniz collapsed and died in Central Park. He had two passengers in his carriage at the time. Witnesses watched him struggle to breathe before he stopped breathing entirely. Deniz died roughly one week after Ryder's Law, a New York City bill that would have banned horse-drawn carriages, was set to take effect. The City Council's health committee voted in November not to advance it. Opponents said the bill was rushed and poorly considered. Supporters argued the committee was protecting the carriage industry over animal welfare. Now, a petition is calling on the City Council to vote on the bill again and end horse-drawn carriages once and for all. Henry Nowak, 18, was stabbed five times on a street in Southampton, England, last December. His attacker, Vickrum Digwa, told arriving officers that he was the victim of a racist attack. Body camera footage shows Henry repeatedly telling officers he couldn't breathe and that had been stabbed. One officer can be heard replying, "Don't think you have, mate," as he handcuffed him. Henry died at the scene. Last week, Digwa was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. The court found his racism claim to be fabricated. Three of the four officers present remain in their roles, with a police watchdog investigating their conduct. Intense local protests have since erupted, and over 215,000 people have signed a petition demanding the officers involved be charged and for the investigation to be made public. Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said the following on a national podcast last month: "I hate Islam. It's a demonic death cult. Now, I love Muslims because they make great Christians when Jesus gets ahold of them, but I hate Islam." The comments drew condemnation from Muslim and Jewish communities across Indiana. Beckwith doubled down in a broadcast news interview days later, saying he has "no love for Islam" and that the religion is "incompatible with who we are as Americans." Imam Faraji Garth, a spiritual leader at an Evansville mosque, says the rhetoric had real consequences: after Beckwith's comments, he was subjected to an Islamophobic verbal attack, and the mosque received a threatening message. He has launched a petition calling for Beckwith's resignation. “The people of Indiana deserve a leader who embraces diversity and promotes unity, rather than division,” his petition reads. A Utah man is facing a felony charge after witnesses say he repeatedly slammed a cat into concrete in front of children. According to police, the animal was picked up by the neck and thrown against the ground, a door, and concrete steps. Officers reported visible injuries, including bleeding skin and leg damage, and said the cat was struggling to breathe when they arrived. The man admitted to handling the cat roughly and was issued a summons at the scene. The cat is still recovering. A Change.org petition is calling on prosecutors to pursue the maximum penalty under Utah law, arguing the charge should be treated as a case of extreme animal cruelty. Royal Caribbean wants to build “Perfect Day Mexico,” a massive water park on Mexico’s Caribbean coast that could bring up to 20,000 passengers a day to the small fishing village of Mahahual. The project would span more than 260 acres along the Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest coral reef system in the world. More than 3.7 million people have signed a petition calling for the project to be stopped, warning it could put protected mangroves, coral reefs, sea turtle nesting grounds, and fragile marine ecosystems at risk. The petition also calls for a full environmental review and a broader public debate about the future of tourism development in Mexico. This week, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said she would fight to protect the reef. The Senate voted unanimously Thursday to withhold senators' pay during government shutdowns. The resolution, introduced by Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., directs the Secretary of the Senate to hold back senators' salaries for the length of any future shutdown. Senators would still collect full back pay once shutdowns end. The measure applies only to senators, not House members, and takes effect after the 2026 midterms. In response to the last two shutdowns, more than 150,000 people have signed a petition arguing Congress shouldn't get paid when over 1.5 million civilian federal employees can't. Tennessee could soon allow foster children who need extra supervision to be placed in juvenile detention centers. A new petition is urging Gov. Bill Lee to stop SB1868—already passed by both the House and Senate—from becoming law. Petition starter and foster care survivor Robert Stein is calling on the governor to reject the bill, warning that it treats trauma like a crime instead of addressing the support these children need.
