I’m on the border, and the people in Sonora with the authority to solve these problems couldn’t even get a meeting with
@SecRollins or her office.
The United States has enormous resources. Why weren’t specialized teams deployed to work directly with each Mexican border state? Sonora, Chihuahua, and the others all have different challenges, politics, and infrastructure. We should have had people on the ground who know the area and the players.
In Sonora, that means engaging directly with the Unión Ganadera who couldn’t even get an audience with her office.
Secretary Rollins was scheduled to come to Douglas and meet with those most affected by these decisions. Instead, she canceled the visit and went to Tucson to do a photo shoot with cotton Farmers.
So when I hear that Mexico wasn’t willing to work with us, I disagree. From where I sit, the United States never mounted the serious coordinated, state-by-state effort this issue required.
