As an emerg doc, I can’t support this strongly enough. Protect your brain. Traumatic brain injuries - even mild ones - can be so devastating. Please please please wear a helmet.
An important #FathersDay message from me…WEAR A HELMET ! This week I had a bad accident while riding my bike in CT. I'm doing ok and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at @LMHospital who looked after me but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Be Safe

I always tell students and residents - being a family doctor is a hard job, especially if you’re supporting people facing the downstream impacts of an unjust world, but being able to be there for people through thick and thin is magic. I would never choose anything else. ❤️

Getting ready to start my day doing a job I still love. Being a family doctor Twenty years later, I would choose it again.

A note of gratitude for those that: 🩷 continue to seek to understand 🩷 want see the beauty in our differences 🩷prioritize safety through compassion 🩷 work through quiet dialogue instead of loud centering of their own saviourism Those that engage in the above, give me hope.

For all journals who request peer reviews, 2 weeks is not enough of a turn around. Reviewers are not compensated for their time and these intracovid times require a lot for effort to complete peer reviews….Signed a peer reviewer

Tragically, while functional freeze is so common in medical training, where the imperative to compartmentalize dysregulated experiences out of awareness reigns, there is virtually no training on how to work with these states and alleviate their mental and physical costs.
Interesting thought that just about every medical student finishes residency in some degree of functional freeze. This carries a high physiologic cost. #MedEd #PhysicianHealth

This was so much fun! I already can’t wait until we do it again next year!
Last week, we took part in @uoftmedicine's Summer Mentorship Program – an experience that allows high school students of Indigenous or African ancestry a chance to explore health sciences @UofT Thanks to Prof. @JarisSwidrovich and all involved for organizing an exciting day!

Today is Red Dress Day. It is a day when we honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls & gender diverse people. We remember & uplift them. We support their loved ones. We recognize this disproportionate violence as a national tragedy. We advocate for change. #MMIWG2S

The findings of this study suggest that current models of communication training and assessment may fall short due to overreliance on observation, which may fail to unearth the authentic and largely self-taught communication behaviors of residents bit.ly/3lzoDr4 #MedEd

Did my 200th GIM e-consult this weekend. Glad to help support primary care in this small way and save patients the time and expense of an unnecessary clinic visit for the right type of problem. More info on accessing our @uhn GIM e-consult service below

There are many of us who are informally “on call” for Indigenous inpatients — families often reach out for advocacy and guidance. But I hope we can create a formal network of navigators soon through the new Indigenous Healrh Action Network of @TAHSNetwork. So needed.
