The boat my grandmother boarded when she fled North Korea at fifteen, risking her life. This exhibition began with that boat. That crossing changed the course of my family's history.
She had planned to visit my exhibition, but she passed away before it opened. The words left unspoken and the time that never arrived now remain within this vessel.
As an unreachable longing.
As an unfinished trajectory.
We all carry feelings that never reach their destination.
We all have someone we never got to see again.
And yet, relation does not disappear.
I call that Eotieum (์์ด์) - remaining connected through what cannot fully meet.
