Learn #FEM for #CFD through hands-on coding in Octave/MATLAB. I have uploaded two lessons on solving the diffusion equation and advection-diffusion in 1D using the FEM. Will be adding for 2D advection-diffusion, Stokes and Navier-Stokes soon. Playlist at youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

Position based dynamics (PBD) method gives nice looking results for animations and requires calibration of parameters to get reasonable accuracy. FEM gives results of better accuracy required for engineering problems.

All the folks building robots these days should visit industries where robots built over the last few decades are building, processing, assembling and inspecting stuff.

JUST IN: Meta is reportedly moving to curb employee AI token use as internal AI costs climb into the tens of billions.

Good thing that they banned the Claude Fable model outside the USA. Quite a few people are going to save money.

Claude might generate "impressive" CAD models. Now, anyone with access can do the same because it's just prompting. The difference being how many tokens you can afford to burn in the process. But are you skilled enough to fix the issues? Same as in coding.

Looks like the kids got a new toy, called AI CAD. Can't wait to see when they grow up and find engineering reality. 😂😂

Two funding applications on FSI with fracture gone into the bin! Was hoping that at least one would be successful but not meant to be.

Mech & Aero is an area where, beyond a point, you learn only by doing and working in the ecosystems where state of the art/contemporary work is happening. There are no online resources where you can stay abreast of even 10% of what’s happening at near state of the art. The observed insights, the iterated methodologies, the analysis parameters all remain trade secrets. It diffuses entirely on a need to know basis. Two men of similar acumen would see significant divergence in their additional know why if they work in two different ecosystems in two different countries. This is true even in computational engineering domains.

I’ve been in robotics for about 7 years. For most of it, especially in controls, it was a pretty niche field. Now it seems like “physical AI” is the thing to do. I’m glad robotics is getting all this attention, and we need more people to tackle these problems. But I also think it's overhyped and misleading. A lot of the spotlight is on curated demos or robots dancing/doing flips. They’re cool, but they make the field seem much further along than it really is. The hard problems, robust manipulation, sim2real, long horizon autonomy, reliability and more, don’t make for a cool 30 sec demo.
I'm not an opportunist. I chose robotics because it's robotics, not because it's the hot field. My passion will not bend to the hype.

Replying to @yacineMTB
Multibody dynamics with rigid bodies, including friction, is more or less a solved problem, excluding some difficulties with friction. Mech/Aero Engineers use them. You guys should read more literature for methods developed in other fields where these problems are ubiquitous.

One can only gain a surface knowledge by watching videos on YouTube. To truly learn a subject, one must read textbooks.

I have had enough of this PhysicalAI/SciML/PIML bullshit! Please share some CFD/FEA/MHD simulations done using the standard methods - FDM, FEM, FVM, SPH, LBM, MPM, ...

Posts here on robotics make one think that customised industrial robots are something from sci-fi movies we are yet to achieve, like warp drives or teleportation devices. They give me the impression that these guys have never seen an industrial robot in action.

To all those with ex's in their profiles, is it an insecurity that you still have to float tags of institutions and organisations around because you don't have any value/credibility of your own?
