Good morning! Ahead of the launch of the (delayed) @IPCC_CH AR6 synthesis report, here’s a massive graphic reimagining the impact of climate change on Southeast Asia at the current level of warming, but also what the region could look like if more is done to tackle climate change
Who’s heading to #COP28? Will be closely tracking topics related to #carbon markets, nature/land use/ oceans, CCUS and #health. Would love to connect if you’re heading there too, drop me a dm!!
Don’t even use twitter anymore but back on here to say that @winstontlchow has been officially elected as co-chair, making him the first ever Singaporean to sit in the IPCC bureau 🥳🥳🥳 straitstimes.com/singapore/s……
For the first time, Singapore has nominated our very own climate scientist, @winstontlchow to sit on the @IPCC_CH Bureau - as a co-chair for WGII on adaptation, vulnerability & climate change impacts! straitstimes.com/singapore/s…
*Mind-blowing* new NASA video showing CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels...
...as if they were visible to the human eye

Thanks @cheryltans from @straits_times for covering our work! Interesting observations from the property industry on the attractiveness of greenery for home buyers. Our analysis shows the "greenery premium" paid by buyers increasing over the decades, in both S$ & %.
In a doorstop interview w reporters, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that transboundary haze will not be an issue anymore — even amid the hotter & drier El Nino season.
This comes as the authorities are turning to climate modification technology to produce artificial rain and to strengthen water reserves, which could help to prevent peatland fires. straitstimes.com/singapore/t…
NEW: S'pore is looking into the wider adoption of biofuels & sustainable bioresources to hit its net zero target by 2050. The Govt looking into more sources & types of biofuels - both locally & internationally from up to 8 countries. straitstimes.com/singapore/s…
S'pore has already made some strides in this area - biofuels are widely used in the maritime sector, sustainable aviation fuel has been rolled out on all SIA flights, and our sewage waste/food waste will be turned into biogas w the new Tuas Nexus Facility from 2025.
So there will soon be a code of practice for coastal protection infrastructure, where certain standards have to be implemented for structures like sea walls, dykes, tidal gates etc. straitstimes.com/singapore/p…
One key requirement would be the ability of these structures to withstand extreme weather events like extreme heat, coastal surges, and possible debris from intense rainfall etc throughout its lifespan!
Got to stay at the “tiny houses” on Lazarus Island! Wrote a piece on whether this new offering could help elevate S’pore as a sustainable travel destination: straitstimes.com/singapore/p…
Experts felt that the stay could be packaged w biodiversity tours & nature walks for a back-to-nature, “off the grid” experience. Thought it might also be helpful to have bird watching guides & a list of plant species which could be found there, like the Delek Air!
Especially liked Dr Shawn Lum’s suggestion on getting people to contribute to citizen science initiatives & to have an option for guests to donate to research work & to fund conservation initiatives on the island and at the Sisters’ Island Marine Park
For the first time, Singapore has nominated our very own climate scientist, @winstontlchow to sit on the @IPCC_CH Bureau - as a co-chair for WGII on adaptation, vulnerability & climate change impacts! straitstimes.com/singapore/s…
This is particularly crucial as the AR7 reports will include a Special Report on Cities and Climate Change - which is Prof Winston Chow's area of expertise. Work on AR7 will soon begin July this year, as will the elections!
Well well well……16 species of insects will soon get the green light for human consumption from the next half of this year, according to the Singapore Food Agency: straitstimes.com/singapore/1…
