“During the whole Doha tournament, I played for several rounds against so many players who were younger than me, and they were so good. I felt like an old man already, complaining about the youngsters coming up—why are they so strong and so young? That was quite shocking in some way, but that’s just the way it is. Everyone has access to so much knowledge nowadays, so anyone can become good very quickly, and they are just working like crazy. Probably when I was 13 or 14, people also didn’t enjoy playing against me with that rating, so that’s how it is. We are still quite young, but the generation younger than us is already coming. I think we are soon going to be in a position where we’re trying to dethrone the existing top generation while also defending ourselves against the younger one.”
