This man changed my life. In 1996 he visited our mission and on that very Sunday in Budapest, Hungary he encouraged us to work hard and be true and faithful to our calling. Fast forward 29 years later and I’m now serving as the mission president of the Hungary Budapest Mission. Today doesn’t happen without the encouragement I received from him on that day 29 years ago. I am forever grateful for Elder Holland.
With heavy hearts, we announce that President Jeffrey R. Holland, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died today at approximately 3:15 a.m. MST from complications associated with kidney disease, while surrounded by his family. He was 85.
“My total responsibility … is to bear witness of the Lord Jesus Christ,” President @HollandJeffreyR said hours after he was called to be an Apostle in 1994. “As inadequate as I feel, it is the most pleasant and most rewarding and most thrilling assignment a man can have in this world.”

He met with my wife and I three years ago and called us to be mission leaders in Hungary. I will never forget how kind he was when he greeted us in Hungarian and then told us “I am sure you feel very inadequate. Welcome to the club!” He has had such an impact on my life as well as the saints in Hungary. I was visiting the branch in Eger today, where many tears were shed today as members heard the news. He will be missed.
A new “Behind the Scenes of General Conference” video released on Saturday, September 27, highlights the teamwork behind publishing the general conference editions of the Church’s magazines.
Regular issues of the Church magazines can take as long as 10 months to complete, explains Michael Dunford, art director for the “Liahona.” “For general conference, we’re literally doing it in just a few days.”
“At the end of the day, people might not know everything that went into the magazines,” said Garry Garff, a copy editor. “What is most important is that the spirit of the Lord is in it. And that’s our goal.”
