why the hell do you all care so much about being 'fans'. thats the core of this issue because its just exacerbating how awful fandom culture is, people just wanna be seen as a fan for external validation and so they can participate in useless discourse
i don't get the "you have to physically play a game to say you're a fan" take at all like yeah obviously watching a playthrough isn't the exact same experience but i don't think you can't say you're a fan of it just because of that?

every single person who claims you can be a fan of a game without playing the game is deep into fandom culture. they care about the fandom but not the game, they’re only in it for the sake of online validation not for the sake of the actual game they’re a “fan” of

whatever this debate is started by people who watch clips of a show on tiktok and then say they’re a fan of it just drones with no personality and no critical thinking desperate to be validated without having to put in any real effort to engage with what they claim to enjoy
