New behavioural science research shows that cynical thinking is a barrier to success at work. Cynicism can bleed workplaces of creativity, openness & morale & negatively impact outcomes. People who succeed at work tend to so by building trusting connections & alliances: the opposite of cynicism. People don't typically have "cynical personalities". Rather, the social environment significantly shapes our willingness to give & earn trust. Three ways to overcome a culture of cynicism: 1) Turn trust and collaboration into the default setting in the team/organisation. 2) Show how popular cooperative values really are & help people feel safer pursuing collective success. 3) Role model being the first to trust. hbr.org/2024/08/why-cynics-a…. By @zakijam. I've paired it with a @nickcave quote via the author which illustrates the counter position to cynicism which is hopefulness.

Surviving as a team leader in emergency medicine. Here are 10 learning objectives & strategies I recommend: 1. Develop a resuscitation mindset, taking responsibility for the critically ill patients under your care - ownership is key

I am astonished there is not a single mention of action to address racism, bullying and harassment, or making the raising of concerns safer and more effective. Is there a reason for this glaring gap?

You may need to read this twice. Because the first time, you just won’t believe your eyes.
Protesters, politicians and TV commentators in Israel are defending the right of soldiers to mistreat and even 'rape' Palestinian prisoners in detention. Here's what you need to know ⤵️

Staff wellbeing & morale are a major part of this story: we know staff have emerged from the pandemic burnt out. But we also know that orgs with psychological safety and an emphasis on wellbeing retain staff. This offers a vital clue about fixing the productivity puzzle

Does anyone at @EMTAcommittee or @RCollEM TSC know if there is a 'recommended' average period of time taken for WPBA forms to be completed eg. 15mins per mini-CEX? Trying to document my time pre-appraisal!

URGENT! Pls share. The last chance to register to vote in the General Election is 11.59pm tomorrow Tue 18 June. Potentially 8m aren't registered at their current address. Here's 4 key facts... 1) You can do it online here registertovote.service.gov.u… 2) It's good for your finances. Not being on electoral roll can make it more difficult to be accepted for credit products like bank accounts or mortgages. 3) You can opt out of the 'Open Register' (which allows your info to be sold on) which will stop you getting junk mail marketing ) 4) You'll need ID when you do vote (not to register) if you don't have it, you can get it free until Wed 26 June gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-vo…

Key headlines: Inclusion care (homelessness/substances etc) = core emergency work - it shouldn't be 'somewhere else'. Unscheduled care isn't solely about resuscitation.

Imp to ensure staff seeing complex pts are in the right frame of mind to do so (No easy fix to this one, but training staff to recognise own mind state is 🔑)

Today marks 7 years since the Grenfell Tower fire. 72 people lost their lives in this preventable tragedy. They were victims of corporate greed and institutional neglect. The fight for justice is far from over. #Justice4Grenfell

In response to Labour's distinctly underwhelming manifesto, people are *still* saying, "well let's see what happens when it gets into power. It might be bolder then." But parties tend to become *less* radical when they take office. Our best chance to demand better is now🧵
