exactly wrong. music is a higher art bc of its inhumanity; it's something that "proceeds and exceeds" us but we can tap into it, while literature is inherently constrained to our symbolic representations. were you even paying attention in deleuzian sound studies class....
You can know that literature is a higher, more human, pursuit than music because there’s never been a virtuosic 6 year old novelist

you already know what it's gonna be when i'm in charge of things around here
Really terrible song to have as your city’s anthem. Mamdani needs to fix this

pop music getting so bad in the 2010s was kind of a necessary evil though because it opened up the space for people to get real weird with rap, club music, etc.

changing technology had a lot to do with it too but there's a lot of stuff that would've died on soundcloud/bandcamp if there wasn't a semi-mainstream appetite for something new

i love what the drums are doing on Mode For Jay Mac as the rest of the band switches from saxophone time into piano time

agreed. after 20 you should realize his amusement park rides that double as advertising campaigns barely count as "movies" anyway and then you can get into the real stuff
"Spielberg ruined movies" is something you think when you're 20 and outgrow when you grow up.

i might be alone on this but i really like how early 60s art films had no concept of a "music video" yet so they'd just have songs start and end mid scene without any concern for synchronizing them to the films' editing

i'm trying to find the version of Harry Smith's Early Abstractions that i saw with songs from Meet the Beatles played over it but everything online has a free jazz or electro-acoustic soundtrack instead – which objectively might be a better fit but i liked the way it was "wrong"

Chairman Mamdani's show trials have begun and soon the line-waiters will be sentenced to hard labor in exile on long island
Even before 8 am the line is so long that it loops around the block and then down past the courthouse

i'm being such a good sport about how excited everyone is for basketball right now but i don't have a month's worth of pretending to care about soccer in me

john was the only beatle cool enough to call eric clapton up and ask him to do a noise set that boomers still complain about 60 years later

many people don't realize that the name "Knicks" is actually short for the New York BeatKnicks, in honor of the great poets and jazz musicians that have lived here

the ending of La Prisonnière (1968) is like the ending of 2001 A Space Odyssey for people that like french pervert movies

it's especially cool because it brings back all of the art pieces from earlier in the movie and takes them from being parts of the sets to being Op Art practical effects

caring too much about being a "real new yorker" is mostly kinda silly, but it probably keeps a lot of the people who are most likely to be annoying about moving here in check so i think it's good that we keep doing this every once in a while
