People think Google has a big moat in search, but that moat is actually a cage.
"They have all the search data" --> That means their algorithm is designed for past search patterns, not future ones
“They have all the click data" --> Which has optimized them directly into SEO hell
“Their search is so fast" --> Sets a maximum for the power of algorithms they can run
“They have the infrastructure to search the entire web each search" --> Causes information overload. Again restricts algorithm power. Less is more
"They’ve been doing search for 25 years" --> The base search algorithm should be thrown out and redesigned now that we have systems with nearly human-level intelligence
“They have billions of users and make over 100 billion dollars a year" --> It was difficult to turn the Titanic
“They already solved search” --> For the easiest queries sure. But that reputation prevents exploration of new algorithms for hard queries. Ex: try to find a list of people who've written about search
“They’re doing just fine, they don’t need to solve the hard queries” --> Exactly
Google’s moat keeps them caged in their castle, while we barbarians explore a new rich search landscape.
@metaphorsystems isn't trying to be Google, we're being something more
