Telling the truth once it's too late to do anything about it is a cruel CNN specialty.
šŸ’„NEW: CNN’s Fareed Zakaria *DELIVERS BRUTAL TAKEDOWN* of California’s ā€œFAILING MODEL OF GOVERNANCEā€šŸ’„ ā€œThe frustration is real and JUSTIFIED… it is a case study in how a rich society can spend more and more — while producing less and less of what its ordinary citizens need.ā€

Did anyone see Elvis live and in person? To see him in Las Vegas, or another live venue, had to be something special. To my misfortune, I never did.

An interesting factoid is that The International Hotel, which opened July 2, 1969, was not only famous for hosting Elvis, but also for being the largest hotel in the world at that time. Today, it’s known as the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. Has anyone stayed there?

Two Wine Glasses (1874or 1875) by John Singer Sargent (1856-1925). Renowned more for his portraiture, Sargent painted many other subjects, including this Impressionist work completed when he was only about 18. I think it’s a brilliant work that engenders a feeling of serenity. What about you?

Xavier Becerra is the epitome of an untalented man elevated to high office by those for whom he will unquestionably do their bidding. He is another Alejandro Mayorkas.
A comprehensive demolition of this reporter, the story, the NYT and fake news journalism in general. But the most interesting bit to me are the pungent criticism of Biden's HHS secretary Xavier Becerra, which accords with my interactions with his flaks on the illegal migrant "children" he was flying into Westchester on charter planes in the middle of the night. Kennedy says Becerra "almost never showed up for work here during his four years in office. [He] reportedly spent most of his term ... in California. "His only notable accomplishments here were losing 300,000 children, referred to HHS for custody and care, to human traffickers and drug runners, encouraging transgender surgeries, and disabling the entire program-integrity apparatus, allowing hundreds of billions of dollars of theft from my agency. I have set out to find the children Becerra lost. He is now the front-runner for the governor of California."

It’s sad that there are Americans who have such negative feelings about this country that they won’t even celebrate the very significant 250th anniversary of the events that gave all of us our independence.
Months ago I said that one of the ephemeral things that was not being taken into account for the Midterms was the Summer 250 Celebrations. I knew the Dems could not celebrate our country, and I was proven right. What are we seeing? Trump cleaned up DC in preparation for the celebration, and the Dems are complaining about the "waste of money" Fountains are working, reflecting pools actually reflect, parks are cleaned and streets are safe. The Dems still complain. The original "bipartisan" (AKA known as the DEM led 250 committee planned very little to celebrate our Anniversary, so what did Trump do? He put together a supplemental group that is planning amazing events to bring people together in a variety of shared events at our Nation's Capitol. One of those was the "National State Fair" on the Mall, complete with musical acts to celebrate our country. What was the Dem reaction to those musical artists? ANGER that they would dare to perform to celebrate our country, so much ANGER that they persuaded some of those musical acts to back out of singing. How do you think that plays in Normal America? The Dems are raging about the UFC fight on the WH lawn, so much so that Eisen ran to Judge Mehta to try and cancel it, this week. Can you even imagine the blowback if that Dem operative masquerading as a judge says he can't do it at the last minute? I expect the Dems will also push back on the Street race and try to stop it as well. And they will probably try to stop the Fall High School Sports events. They DO NOT WANT UNITY. They push division and hate. Never forget that. Two other things are happening that are going under the radar. The Europeans who came for the World Cup and are experiencing normal, outside the Acela corridor America. And guess what? They LOVE it. They are reminding AMERICANS of how wonderful our country is and marvel at things we take for granted. People are coming together over sports, food, things to see, travel destinations. It is a GREAT unifier. The Dems haven't figured out how to counter that, so they ignore it to their peril. The other thing I noticed this year. Go to Target, or Belks or any other Department store. It's June. What have we seen in years past? Pride Month displays. What do you see this year? Patriotic displays. Lots of flags. Lots of Red, White and Blue. Lots of we love our country energy. The Dems thrive when they divide us, in spite of owning every institution, they cannot stop what is coming this summer. A summer of celebration. A summer of unity. A summer of healing. Breathe it in and enjoy every minute of it.

If you haven’t seen The Wayward Bus (1957) yet, you really should bump it to the top of your list. This adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel throws together a colorful mix of strangers on a rickety bus bumping through a stormy California night. There’s sharp dialogue, tension and drama as personalities clash, secrets are uncovered, and unlikely connections form. The cast is outstanding — especially Jayne Mansfield, who shows depth beyond her bombshell image. Rick Jason and Joan Collins really deliver as well. The performances feel honest and real. It’s suspenseful, funny and unpredictable. I really enjoyed this gem.

I love my old classic paperbacks. Their pages yellow, the covers bend and tear, and they just deteriorate over time. But I still hang on to them! Who else has some favorite old paperbacks to share?

CA’s voting process has huge vulnerabilities. DMV registers voters via a self-attested citizenship checkbox—no docs required. Ballots arrive by mail for years to anyone registered; signatures get compared with the DMV (or cured with utility bills/gym cards, etc. that don’t prove citizenship). Postmarks must be by Election Day, but the system relies heavily on trust. However, many have no trust in this system and attribute voter fraud to the striking anomalies and surprising outcomes we regularly see. This deliberately flawed system needs to be made secure so California can have honest elections that people believe in.

American aviator and hero Amelia Earhart and her Lockheed Electra famously disappeared in 1937. While declassification of government files by President Trump provided no definitive answers, a new clue has emerged. A pilot using Google Earth believes he spotted plane remains on the remote island of Nikumaroro. This potential breakthrough, paired with previously found artifacts, has inspired a new expedition this year. Could the 90-year mystery finally be solved?

On this trajectory - there will be no point in travelling anywhere in the future. Every city will be the same.. The same demographics, languages, cultures, food, businesses.. completely standardised. Globalism is a cultural bulldozer.

Fortunately, the proposed new design takes inspiration from the original design to further the goal of pursuing classic, uplifting architecture.

The powers that be keep telling you "London is multicultural" and DIEversity is your strength. This was London in the 1960s. Which do you prefer?

It’s been years so I decided to rewatch TCM’s weekend showing of Double Indemnity (1944). Wow! That movie still packs a punch! I can’t think of another noir I’ve seen that tops it. Is there one?

Henry Nowak died the same way a civilization dies: abandoned, handcuffed by authorities who neither trusted nor cared for him, and accused of hate crimes he did not commit. His murder is as tragic as it is enraging. He should still be alive today, and he would be if the last few generations of European elites had stood their ground against the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants, many of whom despise the West and the people who love it. Henry was far from the first to so needlessly lose his life, and I fear he won’t be the last. Each time a life like his is lost, the proper response—the only response—is righteous anger. One of the most important things the Trump administration has proven to the world is that stopping the flow of mass migration and defending national sovereignty is a matter of political will and leadership. Anything else is an excuse. It is because we love the West that we want to preserve it. We love our civilization. We love our country. We love our children. And nobody—nobody—should ever die the way that Henry Nowak died. May God comfort those who loved him, and may God rest his soul.
In his final moments, Henry Nowak told police officers nine times ā€œI can’t breatheā€ and four times that he had been stabbed. In response police officer dragged him across the gravel, handcuffed and read him his rights. It was the last thing Henry heard before he died.

Hammer’s The Mummy, starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, in blazing Technicolor, and Curse of the Undead, a wild B&W mashup of cowboys and vampires, starring Eric Fleming of Rawhide fame, in a December 1959 horror double-bill at the Paramount Theatre, Syracuse, New York. Have you seen these films and/or been to the Paramount?

The Rolex Pan Am Daytona is a special and legendary edition of the Daytona watch, likely made for the CEO of Pan Am in 1973 to celebrate their collaboration. Bearing the blue Pan Am logo, it’s a unique piece, originally made with a black acrylic bezel. But customized versions with a faded, deep blue aftermarket bezel and the Pan logo applied to a standard vintage steel Daytona (Ref. 6263 or 6265) perfectly mimic the Pan Am aesthetic as in the accompanying photo. Even the customized, non-Rolex produced versions are very extremely rare and sought after by collectors and are fascinating to Pan Am fans, like me. It’s a very beautiful and elegant watch.

A first time watch, and it was a good one! Glenn Ford, Gloria Graham and Lee Marvin in The Big Heat (1953), a movie with all the ingredients to make a great noir. Plenty of drama, suspense and exciting moments. The story keeps moving and keeps you deeply engrossed. One of the top noir/crime films.

California’s method of counting ballots received and cured for weeks after Election Day is a giant black hole, which no one can fully explain. It invites fraud and engenders widespread cynicism and distrust. It needs to change now.
Is it incompetence or is it intentional?

What other election system allows candidates to see where things stand on Election Day and determine how many votes they need to ā€˜find’ to ensure victory?
