not sure if its more upsetting that this policy even existed or that its under the guise of reducing avoidable ED use. if that were the goal, pulling the rug from under patients def not the way to go! try pt. education management of ambulatory care sensitive conditions instead!
UnitedHealthcare was planning to deny coverage for ER visits they retroactively decided were not emergencies. @ReedAbelson started asking them questions about the policy — and now it's on hold. nytimes.com/2021/06/10/healt…

A few personal #CORS2021 Day 1 highlights: -@phebe_vayanos on AI/OR for social good! for those w/ "use-inspired" research mindsets and that strive to make real world impact, this was the session for you! (s/o to all the other applied researchers out there!) (1/X)

-During the Canadian Healthcare Optimization Workshop: @SPOClab’s on how explainable AI is going to be the norm/expectation moving forward in healthcare (if it isn’t already) and how “the right to explanation” is already being formalized in AI/ML regulatory documents! (2/X)

-The charming virtual hangout world of gather.town/. Nothing is as quite as amusing as 8-bit avatars and fluid video chatting, and nothing warms my heart more than getting a chance to see old friends (esp. during the pandemic!) (3/3) Can't wait for #CORS2021 Day 2!

That feeling when a journal asks you for a revision, but you have to go through your old uncommented code to respond.

Kicking off the account with some new research done in collab w/ Boston EMS! Found surges in cardiac arrests were strongly associated with reluctance to seek care - please take care of yourselves out there! More info from @MITSloan here: mitsloan.mit.edu/press/mit-s…
In an article published ahead of print today, Christopher Sun of @MIT coauthors examine cardiac arrests in the early phase of the #COVID19 pandemic in Boston, MA. Their findings suggest that many patients were reluctant to obtain needed emergency care. bit.ly/3vr99W4
