A court in Equatorial Guinea has sentenced Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the former head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, to 8 years in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of $220,000 for embezzling government funds.
According to the Bioko Provincial Tribunal, Engonga was found guilty of diverting travel funds meant for official duties and using them for personal gain. The ruling was confirmed by Supreme Court press director, Hilario Mitogo.
This comes months after Engonga was dismissed from his post following a high-profile scandal that shocked the entire world.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to meet Zimbabwe's war veterans in the coming weeks. This meeting follows the rollout of the War Veterans Welfare Fund across all ten provinces, aimed at empowering liberation war veterans through economic initiatives, improved infrastructure, and social support.
The fund includes interest-free loans, housing schemes, and borehole drilling projects to modernize the lives of veterans.
The meeting will provide a platform for veterans to discuss their welfare and the future of these programs directly with the President.
