This really shows how gaslighting new players into believing Cloud and Tifa's relationship is primarily romantic is harmful to the experience of playing these games before OG. Their dynamic is interesting exactly because there's this tension between them due to unspoken truths, unrealistic expectations and tiptoeing around each other, not because they're a perfect match, or soulmates, or in love since childhood. The LSS reveal that Cloud was ignored and shunned, that the Emilio that was such a close friend to Tifa never accepted Cloud into their friend group, as well as Tifa herself is what scenes like this and the Gongaga one are building up to. Giving up on a game because the character doesn't act like one side of the fandom made you believe he should is crazy. Cloud and Tifa's relationship does not represent the love story within the games, it is intrinsically linked to Cloud's traumas, identity crisis, the mystery revolving his character and his arc of accepting himself. Cloud is not being rude here, in fact, he is being very honest and considerate while Tifa (unknowingly) brings up a hurtful memory by talking about someone that rejected him as a child and contributed to him wishing he was somebody he is not. This is why I say FF7's story is way too complex for the average videogame player who goes in thinking what they see is what they get.
This CT streamer dropped rebirth after this scene (I’m not joking) they really stopped playing the game afte this, I respect their decision, but CT relationship is not good or a great love story at all.
