A love letter to libraries, on @thenaturelib’s first year in Irvine and being stunned (but not speechless, apparently) by the great people walking through its doors. Another year of libraries facing cuts and also of them literally rising from the ashes. Thanks @tweetbytheriver!
As she looks back on the year her Nature Library found a permanent home, @cmarieriley celebrates libraries as places of limitless potential buff.ly/4ak2vWH
ALT Hands hold a bird's nest donated to the Nature Library. A selection of other donations are nearby in open Tupperwares, including other bird nests and a wasp's nest.
Still obsessing over hearing Garth Greenwell talk about sentence muscularity at @PortyBooks and always quietly obsessing about ballet and less quietly about this cool planet we live on. New post on Substack about some of that thenaturelibrary.substack.co…
Arran Library back on one of those isolated days of summer. Birds zig-zagged between the eaves and the trees like they were trying to stitch them together. Bookbug sessions look out onto Goatfell which makes me wonder if they tell stories about goats falling onto bugs.
Senior Library Assistant Nickey (left) said “The library serves our community with not only books, but the use of our community room, a warm space … From the very young to the older generation, the library is a welcome hub, a place to gather, talk and share a moment in time.”
The latest North Ayrshire budget consultation, which proposed cuts to a number of libraries, leisure centres and green spaces, received the council’s highest ever number of responses from the public.
Know anyone who loves the sea and pebbles and pebbles that look like the sea?

The Beach Today calendar is back with 12 more of the ~365 pairings of sea, sky and stone made from Nov 2020 - Nov 2021.
This site is different now but The Beach Today exists because of it/the people on it and for that I’ll always be grateful! Ok thanks!

Then support libraries to engage with communities so they can run thriving hubs of knowledge and leisure and curiosity. Raise their user numbers. If your stomach is empty do you just have it removed because it’s “not being used”? Or something???
