ALT A red-headed, full-figured pin-up in a white teddy is reading a book called "The Art of Pantomine" while pretending to lean on something. She stands on a purple circular rug, and a surprised terrier is watching her.
ALT All nine of my books -- "The Year of No Mistakes," "Dr Mutter's Marvels," "How to Love the Empty Air," "Oh Terrible Youth," "Words in You Face," "Everything is Everything," Dear Future Boyfriend," Hot Teen Sl*t," and "Working Class Represent" -- are laid on beige carpet with a subtle flower pattern on it. A brown wire-haired dachshund sits on the left side of the books, and a silver-dappled black and tan dachshund sits on the right side of the books.
God bless the bookseller from @BookPeople who carried this gorgeous stack of books to my car when six pre-orders arrived on the same day! So excited to dive into these brilliant books!
ALT A text message between two parties. The first party is sending a text message for six different pre-order pick ups for Curbside. The response is from the bookstore letting them know they will be out shortly.
ALT Six different books on a red and gold plaid ottoman. Let the Record Show by Sarah Shulman; Bodies are Cool by Tyler Feder; One last stop by Casey McQuiston; how the word is passed by Clint Smith; somebody’s daughter a memoir by Ashley C Ford; and wake the hidden history of women lead slave revolts by Rebecca Hall
Had another long conversation tonight with young journalist trying to make some decisions. My advice: pay attention to who has left the newsroom you’re considering, and why. Are journalists of color surviving, or thriving? Big diff. Are they leading the BIG stories, projects?
My new book HOW THE WORD IS PASSED is out today. It explores how different places across the country reckon with, or fail to reckon with, their relationship to the history of slavery. I gave this book everything I have. Here are the places I visited 🧵:
