The question of whether machines can ever in principle have consciousness is the same as the question of whether mind can ‘emerge’ from matter. The materialists and theists will always disagree. The materialists are wrong though

Sage advice. Probably, if you are reading this, you are a nobody from nowhere. Nobody cares about your viral twitter post. But, but, in God’s eyes, you are a child of the Kingdom, build up your treasures there, for it will even spill over here, in those unexpected moments
I am begging you to ignore anything and everything you hear from the "Manosphere" There's not grand conspiracy, you're just a nobody from nowhere and God willing you get to have a bit of peace and happiness now and again. Stop worrying about the system.

I really love food producing perennials - they are beautiful, come back every year, and compound over time - but they do carry some risk relative to annuals. Some years you get a bad harvest due to erratic Spring weather. With annuals you can wait for the right time to plant

It is looking like Thursday night is the last threat of frost for the season. This means of course that I am taking off Friday from work to plant things

Perhaps my most authoritarian opinion is that short term rentals and investment properties should be banned. Homes for full time residents only. In addition to making housing more affordable, it would help to prevent the real estate boom and bust cycles

Desperate times for the local tadpole population. We’re in a major drought and the pond - home to thousands of tadpoles - is almost dried up. They probably won’t make it but I dug some deeper pocket ponds as a last ditch attempt. In the future I plan to dig the pond deeper

It’s May and I’d love to plant these mature tomato starts this weekend but we have frost warnings 🙄

Currents and gooseberries are one of the easiest plants to grow and propagate. I’d love to sell them, but they are illegal in NC, and I might need to eradicate them from my property in order to pass a nursery inspection. This is not pleasing

Basically every progressive country with generous social benefits has a fertility crises. As much as I support generous benefits for parents, I don’t think they will do much to address the issue. Culture is what matters, and secular society ain’t it

As much as I like twitter and keep coming back, this dynamic of: -something happens -someone has a bad or silly opinion about it -days of reaction and commentary is tiresome. I think I’ll stick to the garden posting

From polluting waterways to causing wells to run dry to degrading prime agricultural lands, Lithium mining has remarkably deleterious effects for rural communities. Same as it ever was. Read more at @countyhwy. countyhighway.com/archive/vo…
