Barney Frank passed last night at 86.
He served Massachusetts in the House for 32 years, from 1981 to 2013. In 1987, he became the first member of Congress to come out as gay while in office. People said it would end his career. His district kept sending him back to Washington for another 25 years.
After Wall Street crashed the economy in 2008, he chaired the Financial Services Committee and co-wrote the Dodd-Frank Act, the law that put real rules back on the banks.
He was sharp, funny, and never ducked a fight. He used his seat to actually deliver for working people.
That's what a member of Congress is supposed to look like.
Rest easy, sir. We'll keep working.
