#iwtvspoilers #tvlspoilers there could've been something interesting with how lestat's narration of his human childhood lingers more on gabriella's feelings in auvergne than his own suffering, but the flashbacks are so rushed and skimmed over they lose a lot of emotional impact

the way folks are wishing brutal violence on louis and fantasizing about how they would've done worse to him for talking back and saying some mean shit to his abusers...y'all would've been lined up for trial tickets at the tdv and chanting "death!!" with the rest of the audience

i like when shows depict characters having a "type" without making their love interests carbon copies of each other. you can tell louis tends to prefer muscular men with angular features who are taller than him- and he usually dates melanated esp black men with 1 french exception

no shade to the journalist here, but it would be a lot more honest if rolin admitted the show is its own animal instead of baiting anne's hardcore fans and trying to retain an audience of book loyalists who haven't been happy with s1-s2 and likely won't be happy with s3 either

-and show fans are constantly reminded that amc won't let the show stand on its own merits and cares more for tryna maintain the white-majority book audience (many of whom rejected this adaptation as soon as jacob was cast in 2021) than viewers who love the show on its own terms

y'all know i'm not an anne stan or a book loyalist by any means but i def think s3/tvl could've struck a balance between adding more to louis' story in the present and doing a more in-depth exploration of lestat's backstory in flashbacks. a lot of flashbacks def feel undercooked-

like i wish there was more menace to lestat's brothers instead of them coming off like schoolyard bullies- i wish they used visual storytelling wrt the lioncourt lodgings feeling cramped and stifling to parallel lestat feeling entrapped instead of "generic sunlit manor" vibes etc

like i know some folks already brush off any criticism of s3 as bitter stans having it out for sam/lestat and i can't change that misperception so it's whatever, but imo there are several things even some lestat solo stans won't be happy with. he could've gotten a better shake
