His rise has been less about early hype and more about performance, with his breakthrough arriving through consistent displays against top-level opposition. Standing at 196cm, Gabriel immediately stands out through his physical profile. His aerial dominance is among the strongest aspects of his game, allowing him to control both penalty areas and consistently win first contacts. Whether defending crosses, dealing with direct play or attacking set pieces, he uses his size, timing and aggression to impose himself physically. Combined with excellent stamina and a highly competitive mentality, he provides a constant defensive presence throughout matches. Although naturally right-footed, Gabriel has primarily operated as the left centre-back in Lecce’s back four. His game is built on defensive reliability first and foremost. He excels in duels, aerial contests, tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances, consistently ranking among the strongest performers in these categories. His duel success and aerial numbers are particularly impressive, reflecting a defender who rarely loses physical battles either on the ground or in the air. He also shows strong anticipation, regularly provoking offsides and stepping in to break up attacks before they fully develop. In possession, Gabriel adopts a pragmatic approach. He is not the type of centre-back who constantly steps into midfield or attempts ambitious progressive carries. Instead, he focuses on protecting possession, making good decisions and ensuring stability during build-up phases. His passing over both short and longer distances is reliable, while his ball retention allows his team to maintain control without unnecessary risk. His role is not to be the primary playmaker from the back, but rather to provide a secure platform behind the ball. What makes Gabriel particularly attractive as a prospect is the clarity of his profile. He is a defensive-first centre-back who dominates physically, wins duels consistently and provides security in virtually every defensive phase. While there is still room to develop certain aspects of his on-ball game, his ability to impact in both boxes, defend aggressively and maintain a high level of consistency against senior opposition already gives him many of the characteristics required to succeed at a very high level. For a player who only recently emerged into the spotlight, his development trajectory suggests there may still be considerable room for growth.
