Excited to announce that Renoviction and Resistance in the Capitalist City, by Cole Webber and Philip Zigman, comes out in June. The book looks at how and why landlords renovict tenants and how tenants have organized to fight back and keep their homes. btlbooks.com/book/renovictio…

My belated attempt to intervene in the Capital translation discourse while also thinking about how it connects to the history of the Marx revival
Chris O'Kane presents the latest edition of Marx’s Capital as another attempt by translators to crystallize a particular political interpretation of Marx—this time, the novel synthesis misapprehended as a straightforward “Marx revival.” @chrisokane_nyc web.sas.upenn.edu/jhiblog/20…

Anyone else horrified by the number of police on in the subways system today? My observation is they are either looking at their phones or roaming in groups of 10 kicking homeless people out of the subway stations.

“[T]he LTB established with the case of [795 College] that it has no authority to reinstate a renovicted tenant who wishes to return to their unit once the landlord has rerented [it]. In light of this[…], why should tenants consider its authority to evict them to be legitimate?”

I heard an AI guy say people are upset at AI because they get uneasy about rapid change. But what change are we experiencing from LLM AI? I don't see any. AI is an avatar for legitimate class grievances, concerns about elite political capture and economic precarity.
