* With a vision to conserve water resources for future generations, the State Govt. is implementing the *Jaladhara–Jalaharathi* programme across rural areas. As part of this initiative, restoration works of an irrigation canal have been taken up in *Mutthayapalem (V) of Bapatla (M)*. The programme aims to conserve every drop of rainwater, improve groundwater recharge, revive neglected water channels & bring fallow lands back under cultivation.
* The local community has actively joined hands in the restoration effort. Villagers, farmers & workers are carrying out desilting, removal of weeds & clearance of obstructions along the canal. The restoration covers a canal stretch of about *10,000 metres in length & 4 metres in width* . Under VB-G RAMG, 45 men & women are participating in the works, earning wages while contributing to water conservation. Scientific measures are being adopted to ensure smooth flow of rainwater & enhanced groundwater recharge.
* Once completed, the restored canal is expected to provide irrigation water to nearly *100 acres* of ayacut land, directly benefiting *80 farmers.* The project will also help improve groundwater levels in surrounding areas & ensure water reaches even the tail-end fields. Farmers have expressed happiness that lands which remained uncultivated due to lack of water can now be brought under cultivation. The *Jaladhara–Jalaharathi* programme is emerging as a successful example of partnership between the Govt. & local communities in conserving water resources & strengthening agriculture.
