Seriously, how can Python's whitespace sensitivity be considered a problem? I wouldn't even have noticed in years if it wasn't for this 'argument' why Python is bad, except for maybe in the REPL. How do you guys write C? Do you mix tabs and spaces?

After all... why not? Why shouldn't any style violation be a syntax error?
@brettsky Can random people on twitter like me help you convince not to withdraw pep 621? I have seen a lot of talk about the concerns of maintainers, but what about users?

A standard could generate enough momentum for setuptools to adopt toml, and probably 90% of all projects could drop their setup.cfg. The current state just feels awkward, and a "tools.metadata" section would still feel awkward.

[Repeat so more people are aware of this] Python 4 FAQ. 1. The version after 3.9 is 3.10; in fact it already exists (in github master). 2. If there ever is a version 4, the transition from 3 to 4 will be more like that from 1 to 2 rather than 2 to 3.
