I follow every major professional wrestling promotion. WWE is by far the hardest to sit through. Patronising commentary, forgettable matches, and wall-to-wall ads.
Reigns here held his previous title for 1316 days. He only defended his title 30 times in this period, with 10 of those defences from Oct 2020 to April 2021. Itโs a front-heavy title reign.
I donโt see the need for Reigns to have any title around his waist outside of appeasing sponsors and plugging a hole in creative.
Roman is beloved due to his tenure in the company, his feud with Cody Rhodes, and his Bloodline storyline conclusion (if you can call it a conclusion).
Despite this, nothing he does has any actual depth or substance. His promo battles with Punk leading up to Mania were begging for both parties to up the ante and go for the jugular, but in the end WWE chickened out and turned it into an โyouโre oldโ feud.
There is a reason why CM Punk is so over with the fans, and itโs the fact that he is the only old school wrestler left with any actual substance.
Similarly to MJF, CM Punk makes you care about what heโs doing at all times. He is leagues and levels above everyone else in the company, and he will passionately win you over with every syllable that leaves his lips. MJF and Punk are the two best in the world at this.
I love professional wrestling and I watch all wrestling, but the fact that this is the standard that the majority of wrestling fans choose to accept is baffling to me.
Itโs obviously down to personal preference and taste - which is completely fine - but having to see WWE so often on my timeline continuously put out tripe on television is disappointing.
WWE is no longer the pinnacle of this sport; they just have the sponsors and streaming deals. WrestleMania has lost all of its appeal and is a completely different event to what everyone grew up watching. Nostalgia is a powerful tool.
I have never been less interested in a wrestling promotion.
WWE isnโt the best promotion in the world anymore - itโs just the loudest.
Yeah, Punk should've retained.
