There’s a huge movement of Coal Tits going on here in southern Sweden. 265 were logged migrating at @FalsterboBO today. The 1973–2023 season (Aug–Nov) average there is 581 per year, and significant numbers usually don’t start until well into September.

JULY ISSUE UPDATE: The July issue has now been printed and is on its way to subscribers. The delay in printing and delivery was caused by the printers that we used going into administration at the end of June. You can read more here: britishbirds.co.uk/news/prin…

A few years back I wrote about being one of the few people for whom receiving poo in the mail constituted a good day, however having a dog turd lobbed at my front door is not what I meant by that... Thanks neighbour.

Said neighbour in action. Didn't even have a dog with them, so where are they sourcing this stuff from?

The Robins did us a favour this afternoon and escorted the Empid towards the Obs. We are pretty confident that this is indeed an Alder Flycatcher, as suggested by @KesterWilsonNan and others. Still around the Cottage. @BirdGuides @docmartin2mc

Great to get confirmation from @docmartin2mc @comicterns that this Chiffchaff was indeed a Siberian Chiff (P. c. tristis). Possibly the 1st confirmed record for NI via DNA analysis
The slow autumn ringing continues with just 15 new birds @ the Bann Estuary this morning. There has been a real lack of thrushes/finches/pipits/larks/buntings. The Chiffchaff was nice, having ringed less than 10 at the site in the past 6/7 years.
