Billy Corgan says rock didnât just fade, it was pushed out of mainstream culture. Speaking with Conrad Flynn on The Magnificent Others Podcast, he recalled a lateââ90s shift where MTV âsuddenly decided rock was outâ even though the genre was still huge.
Corgan said he âsaw the gravity shiftâ as rap took over and standards changed overnight. Today, he points to the irony: rock sells massive tickets worldwide, yet barely appears in mainstream media. For him, the industry âpurposely dialed down the ability of rock stars to have a voice.â
