OK but can we make sure the focus is on SUVs specifically. Many larger families that can't afford EVs buy older 7 seat MPVs (minivan style) out of practical necessity and would get shafted with a weight only tax.
Government should introduce a weight based tax for SUVs.
If you can afford 80-100k for an Audi Q7 PHEV or similar, you should not be able to tax such an unnecessarily big and dangerous car for €170.
A Toyota Corolla hybrid costs €190 to tax.
Where’s the fairness in that?
