Now that car is maintaining 90degC I added Waterwetter to coolant and will see what difference that makes - first a car break for a while

Got the cooling system flushed at Jiffy Lube and car is now maintaining temp. Ewww, should have taken a picture of the brown old fluid.

Stalled while test driving yesterday - sat it traffic and it got hot. Thankfully I had just left intersection - 20 min cooldown and all good

Failed inspections on Friday. Little things like wipers parked in middle of windscreen, oh it stalled during emissions so couldn't finish

Got the car back on the road - problem was that the engine was 180 deg out of phase. Quick swap of spark plug leads and back in business

Just checked fuel pressure and it's reading 37psi when pump is on and 34psi at rest and will hold it briefly - no gas in my eye this time!

No spark at first but distributer to amplifier disconnected. Now I have a weak spark. Will swap amplifiers with donor car.

After two years working on this car, it's finally back together - 1st (2nd, 3rd...) start attempt today, failure - checking for spark first

I relieved the pressure in the gas tanks and left the garage door open and house windows open. Unfortunately, my bedroom is above the garage
25 Jan 2010
The car has been sitting for a while with the top of the engine off. All hoses have been blocked and still look dry(ish).

Gasoline smell in the house - went to the garage and it was a lot stronger - no gasoline leaks by the Jag but it has been closed for a month

Starting the cylinder head removal. Estimating about 10hrs (laugh). Should be on an out. Oh, another $110 on tools from harborfreight = $358

Current total since April 12th - $95 (previous total) $155 (wheels) $8 (oil) = $258 The head gasket kit will probably set me back $100

I spent $8 today on the car for 2 quarts of 20W50 - mostly needed for my wet compression test plus some extra for this car that likes oil

I see cylinder head work in my future - I wonder if my wife will see the same thing?
14 Jun 2009
Well, I ran the check and my worst fears have been realized - The dry compression was about 150 on all cylinders except for #3 which was 95
14 Jun 2009
Before doing any more work on the red jag I'm performing a wet and dry compression test - I really need to know where my engine block stands

Thinking more about an electric car conversion for the black XJ6 - the drivetrain is in good shape so they don't go to waste
