My 2yr term at @USDS was impactful--and flew by. Thrilled to continue working with governments in a new role with @apoliticalco. Through programs on topics such as AI and climate, we’ll expand Apolitical’s courses and networks to even more public servants throughout North America
🚀 Excited to welcome @CoriZarek to Apolitical as our new VP: North America! With 20 yrs experience in government tech, including as Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Digital Service @USDS and Georgetown’s Beeck Center, Cori brings unmatched expertise to Apolitical’s mission.🌟

The application and hiring process here at @USDS is a little different from many typical gov jobs - we bring people through faster and hire for very specific skill sets. Read more about how it all works!

Enjoyed our conversation today with @cio_bund and team, learning about the cross-functional campus they’ve created for government, civil society, academia, and business to collaborate on addressing public challenges. Thanks for the visit 🇩🇪

Big news. Great work to @travismoore and so many others who have been laying the groundwork for this for years.
Today the House announced it's creating a House Digital Service. You won't see it in any flashy press releases or headlines, but it's a big, big deal and a direct result of the great work of our Congressional Digital Service Fellows. Super proud of this progress.🙂

“It’s super clear that bad delivery sinks good policy. To be able to deliver anything, we have to have the tech talent in the room” well said! wired.com/story/government-w…

Agencies are thinking differently about how they buy, build, and implement tech tools - which starts and ends with civil servants. But gov still hires civil servants for tech jobs of 20 years ago vs for the skills of today (the IT jobs classification was last updated in 2001) 2/

Or, gov hires techies for short-term “tours of duty” into short-term appointments. Some people want this - that’s great! But others want set up for careers - for them, not so great! 3/

This is an extraordinary honor and I'm humbled to be among those receiving it. I spent 7 great years at @uiowa, first at @UIOWA_SJMC ( @TheDailyIowan!) and then @IowaLawSchool. It's a joy to keep visiting Iowa City to continue learning from students and faculty. Thank you!
Since 1963, @uiowa has honored world-changing Hawkeyes with Distinguished Alumni Awards. This fall, six new luminaries received the university’s top alumni honor. Meet the 2020 winners: foriowa.org/daa/ #AlwaysAHawkeye #UIowa @corizarek @BroadlawnsMed

Scabs are workers who get paid for filling union jobs while workers strike. By any account, current gov employees are not on strike, but they are overwhelmed and underresourced - now, and always. And they’re asking for pro bono help to address immediate needs. 3/

I don’t have to tell @hunter_owens that current government rules and systems aren’t designed to let staff flex in an emergency - to quickly hire extra humans to augment teams, to quickly contract for tools to help them with unforeseen needs. 4/

At the same time, the bars in my neighborhood including @thepugdc @HStCountryClub @copycat_co are not only open, but appear to be crowded. To the crowded bars and patrons: You will never be able to take back the damage you’re doing. Please, go home. nytimes.com/2020/03/14/opini…
