There are only 2 players required to connect Tendulkar to Hutton in Test cricket Len Hutton -> Colin Cowdrey -> Imran Khan -> Sachin Tendulkar. Would you like to know any others? I wrote a simple program to estimate this today (my Sunday entertainment)...

A prime example of not understanding either 'stats' or 'story'.
And yet this was hardly a great match to watch. Prime example of stats not always telling the complete story.

I was tempted to put Jardine and Hammond...
An ENG Test XI for the last 100 years (1926-2026): Hutton Boycott Compton Root Botham Greig Knott Underwood Laker Trueman Anderson If the extra quick was to play, it would have to Statham for Laker (mostly).

These are the 60 quicks who have 200 or more career wickets. How many of them was below 6 ft tall? Bumrah, Steyn, Shami, Gough(?), Marshall(?), Lindwall was apparently shorter than average (@ovshake42, @senantix?)

Setups only exist if one thinks that the batters are blindfolded.
Perfect setup by Shane Warne… and Jacques Kallis never saw it coming😳🔥

Gill was ball watching. But that was a pretty hairy call by RGS. There was maybe 80% of a run there... and both ends were available to the fielder...

Gurbaz's century today was the third fastest yet in India, behind Afridi's hundred in 2005 and Maxwell's hundred in the 2023 World Cup...

Fast bowling at the highest level is a lot like basketball at the highest level. There's a minimum height (185 cms ) below which its not viable. Unless you are Bumrah or Marshall. All other *fast* bowlers in the last 50 years have been very tall and very strong guys.

AUS don't look particularly weakened without Healy and McGrath...

"listless"? Is there a list of words taped to the walls of the press box which guides writers - which to use when the opposition score is x for y? listless, gutless, feeble, clueless, spineless, dropped shoulders,
Regardless of a listless India attack, Gurbaz’s century is a celebration of where Afghanistan’s white ball cricket has come. Well done! — And that said, Gautam Gambhir needs to rework his ideas around India’s bowling options across all formats. Something’s not right at all at this point.

They've added 102 in 56 balls after being 26/3. This is not a counter attack. Nor is there pressure. Its just a very good pitch. And very good players.

The business of fast bowlers intimidating batters has gone. It was a big marketing thing in the 80s by Packer etc. to sell cricket (the 80s version of today's macho 'badla' style appeals). Batters who can't cope with pace get nowhere near international sides now. They used to.

The quality of skill and ability in international cricket is superior to what it has ever been in the past. These fast bowlers are quicker, fitter, stronger. They're facing more batters who have more practice v fast bowling (because machines and whangers have made this possible)

Would not be surprised if Williamson has been working on his hitting games and has a second coming in T20 like du Plessis and Rahane did. Though, in 2027, what was enough in 2022-23 might not be enough.

What an innings Gurbaz is playing... what superb hitting...

Kane Williamson is another one of those extraordinary teenage talents, like Joe Root or Shubman Gill. Earmarked for greatness. And it was never really doubt. An exceptional technician, superb player... could make time stop when the ball was delivered to him...

T20 objectively isn't becoming more batting friendly. Batters are getting out slightly more often than they used to in T20.
