3,000 days ago today…
I’m actually not kidding: quite literally, on March 16, 2018, I got my first-ever Punk. And the exact moment in which it happened was literally captured on camera.
The weirdest part was that it all happened due to a certain “highly controversial incident” that took place 🤓
An incident you’ll soon get to see.
The “incident” I speak of was in fact so deliciously controversial that it immediately sparked an idea in my mind for an NFT project.
For eight long years, I carried that idea around with me, in my busy head.
I lived with it through the crypto-winter of 2019, sheltered-in-place with it through the Covid lockdown of 2020-21, shared popcorn with it while watching the NFT Bubble of 2021 grow, and Grow, and GROW - and BURST!!!!…🤯
Then, a couple of months ago, on March 16, 2026, meaning exactly eight years later to the day, I commemorated the anniversary of this project’s birth by finally deploying its smart contract on-chain, thereby bringing my first-ever Punk “home”, to the digital realm, where it (arguably) belongs.
It goes without saying that I chose that date very deliberately, and that’s because in our space, that of Art-that-happens-“on the Blockchain”, properties such as dates & timestamps all absolutely matter and we should always look to be quite mindful of them whenever possible.
We're not just making Art, we're making immutably-timestamped-provenanced Art - and that's just for starters. We're working within and constantly recording a History.
And so my 8-year-old NFT project is now live.
Finally.
The NFTs are on-chain.
Each NFT actually encapsulates the eight-year journey in a single artwork. As such, each NFT has been created as a composite made up of two very distinct parts.
The first is static, commemorating the Past, the “controversial” Punk’s own single point of origin - in the REAL, PHYSICAL world. The second is alive, interactive, and points to its on-chain DIGITAL Future and the future of its kin, all those other CryptoPunks. Both so clearly bursting at the seams with so many possibilities.
Ultimately, the story of this NFT leaves you with... a question.
I’m pointing toward one possible answer.
More will offered soon enough - but worry not: it won't take another 3,000 days... 😎
