Twelve years ago today, we lost a brother, a dear friend, a dedicated sergeant, and a man who spent his life striving to make the world a better place. Sergeant Dave Baldwin was tragically killed in the line of duty on January 26, 2014, when a wrong-way driver struck him as he conducted traffic patrol on his department motorcycle on Highway 93. Today, we pause to remember Dave and honor all he accomplished during his remarkable 27 years of public service with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Each deputy accepts the challenges of this profession and is aware of the risks involved. Therefore, it is imperative we take the time to remember those individuals who have given their lives in service, so that they are never forgotten. Dave was known for his infectious smile, unwavering generosity, and dedication to his family. He deeply loved his wife, Crystal, and his son, Josh. His strength and legacy continue to live on through them and everyone whose lives he touched. At 8:00 a.m. this morning, we honored Dave’s memory with a moment of silence over the radio, and a visit to the roadside memorial with Dave's wife, Crystal. Though he may be gone, Sergeant Dave Baldwin will never be forgotten
