All AI art and music is gonna do is make some people work harder to make mind blowing sh*t and have a recognisable style that doesn't sound like anything else. If you're scared of AI, good, maybe it will scare you out of your complacency 😘

The scale of the AI art challenge is clearer when you factor that likely 99/100 people have no idea who wrote their favorite songs. Most art/music history reflects how an output is presented, very rarely how it is created

The AI art debate suffers from context collapse as the word "artist" is as subjective as the word "idiot" We know what it roughly connotes, but it also refers to entirely different kinds of people depending on who you are talking to

Attendance is down, ticket sales are erratic and most people in dance music are... (check notes) busy flexing on Instagram. A closer look at dance music's bumpy return in 2022, and why social media isn't helping. firstfloor.substack.com/p/fa…

Elon Musk told the United Nations he would give them $6 billion to end world hunger if they showed him a detailed plan of how they would use the money. They called his bluff and gave him their plan— and then they never got the money. Now he’s buying Twitter for $45 billion.

Most consumers don't care all that much about what they're listening to. That's not new, but how the music industry exploits that reality in the streaming space is, and it's led to an explosion of fake artists and a total transformation of the passive listening economy. 1/2

Have you ever gotten the feeling that there's basically one booking agent for every club and festival on the planet? They're all pretty indistinguishable from one another when it comes down to the lineups.

Are we ready to accept that Bandcamp Friday continuing into yet another year is a terrible thing for most artists? Or are we still pretending that funneling everyone's cash and release schedule into a monthly musical flea market is somehow empowering for artists?

yep, exactly that
So, had a few chats with industry heads lately and the general feeling is; all the talk of "change" and "progress" that was laid on so thickly during the lockdowns hasn't reeeeeaaally come to fruition and a lot of people have just carried on as though nothing ever happened.
