One hundred years ago today, on December 21 1923, Melbourne’s first W class tram, no 219, entered service. Over the following 33 years, a total of 752 trams were built to the W class design in several variants. A few still run today. Happy 100th birthday to this Melbourne icon.
ALT A W7 class tram runs along Brunswick Street Fitzroy with the spire of St Patrick’s cathedral providing a spectacular terminated vista at the end of the street.
